Samsung RL41WGIH Problem

Hello Peeps.

Bloody great site, can’t believe I never found it before. Any way…..

I have the seemingly all too familiar problem with my frost-free fridgefreezer – the freezer works fine but the fridge is competing with the oven for warmth.
It’s a Samsung (it appears to be a swear word to some :)) RL41WGIH, so some advice would be much appreciated.

I’m an electrician by trade so I’ve investigated a little but I know my limits.

Basically, the compressor is running, so is the evaporator fan. I thought the flap between the compartments was the problem so to test it, I unplugged the motorised flap and propped it open – still no good.

The freezer seems to be OK albeit a bit more snowy frost the other day on the food, but the evaporator isn’t clogged with ice or frost, neither is the fan. There was about 3 tablespoons of clear ice at the bottom of the evaporator.

Is it a variable speed fan on this model? And could a faulty sensor cause the flap to stay closed and at the same time not run the fan at full speed?
Or could the compressor not be running at full capacity, or a gas problem? Any ideas?

Just thought I’d better look again at the food compartment. Nothing unusual there, but the ice maker tray is quite white snowy frosted.

For anyone with a similar problem, sometimes the simplest thing is best not overlooked.

I had this damn thing in pieces to no avail. But, for one last try, I went back to basics.
I’d already defrosted the freezer a couple of times, but I read somewhere else to leave it off for a minimum of 36 hours to let the pcb and sensors reset themselves and guess what…..it worked. And it’s still working now 2 months later.
I think that possibly the whole thing was triggered by someone not completely closing the freezer door, and that sent it doolally.
