If you know someone who can attempt a purge and regas, then not a lot.
I would charge ‘mates rates’ of £20ish.
If this is unsuccessful, then as Bob said, it could be a seized compressor, then I would say it would be BER.January 30, 2015 at 1:49 pm #424044locksnapper

Hi, I Was Just Looking Through All The Advise / Comments & In Reality All Are Correct ! Out Of Interest When You Laid Down The F/F Can You Remember What Side It Was – Hinged Or Other Side Presuming The Fridge Opens From Left To Right (Hinged On Right). . . . Nevertheless Any Appliance Can Be Repaired (yes with a cost) r600a Compressor £68-78 approx. – Filter Drier & Sundries £25.00 – Labours @ 2-3 hrs max , cleaning system O.F.N. (If there is a blockage)Extra 1 hour .
“I know I should be retired by now” hands on engineer from 1974,
I can honestly say very rarely I have had to write off an appliance –
Unfortunately Companies have this magic word & its called B.E.R !
If I Can Be Of Any Further Assistance By All Means Mail Me ,

John
It is hinged on the right, and I layed it down on the left hand side ( non hinged, so that the doors would not open)
BER?

Sorry About The Delay , Ive Been Working Late (as usual)
It does sound like you have laid the cabinet on the wrong side !
The symptoms would be as follows : (switching on immediately is not good) A: Compressor etc would run as normal , but continuously with poor or no cooling ,B: There would of not been no buzzing / clicking etc just a nice quiet harm as long as you didn’t switch off & on several times as this would create the klixon (Thermal) to trip, once again the compressor could well be seized & quite possibly no capillary restriction’s or blockages , BER stands for “beyond economical repair” . . . good luck john -
