    Hi
I experienced the usual issue of the defrost sensor failing and the whole condensor icing up.

I’ve replaced the defrost sensor and everything was fine for a while. Now, every 8-12 weeks or so, I get a problem where there is a completely solid build up of ice behind the condensor cover completely encasing the base of the defrost element and blocking the drain hole. This eventually blocks the air flow and the fridge side warms up. The condensor remains ice-free.

If I clear that build up (ensuring that the drain hole is free also), then everything is fine for a while.

So I’m thinking that the defrost cycle is happening, but is not managing to thaw completely.

Can anyone advise what might be the issue here?
Is the thermal fuse likely to have any bearing on this? (What does the thermal fuse do?)

    Thanks
    Dave

The thermal fuse is there to prevent overheating during defrost periods.
The fin area where the freezing takes place is the evaporator where the refidgerant state changes from liquid to gas,the condensor is the black raidiator looking device at the back near the motor which reverses the state of the refigerant ie gas to liquid.
Not sure if there are two defrost heaters, one for the evaporator and one for the defrost channel.
Think you are getting to the stage where an engineer would be needed to check out heaters, connectors pcb etc.

    Hi

I take it you have checked the drain heater as this will be the fault where the drain is freezing up.Did you also change the evaperator cover ?.The pcb wont be faulty.

BG – apologies – I had used the wrong terms – I meant evaporator rather than condensor.

I wasn’t aware that there was a drain heater – it sounds very likely that this is the issue. I will take look later.
A couple of further question if you don’t mind:
    1. Do you know how to I get to the drain heater and
    2. Why would I need to change the evaporator cover? I understand there was a problem with the RS21 version, but this is a RS20 – is there a new one for this as well?

    Many thanks
