ParticipantI have a Samsung RMS20CCMS American Style Fridge Freezer. We have it had it for only 2 weeks from new and it has become faulty.
From reading many of the posts on here I see that they all have similar problems when they do go wrong. Evaporator Covers, Defrost Sensor and Defrost Heaters etc. I assume that mine has a problem with one of these.
3 days ago we noticed that the freezer was not keeping ice lollies frozen but everything else was. The next day the fridge temperature display started to flash. There was nothing in the manual about that. I switched the machine off for 10 secs to see if it would clear. When it came back on the temperature was displayed wrongly for both freezer and fridge. It said -5 and 18 respectively. They were at -22 and 2 prior to this!
Still, the fridge and freezer were cold. We phoned Samsung and were advised to just leave it to see if it reset itself?!?! I couldn’t quite work out how that would happen though. 4 hours later the temperature readings increased and on inspection we realised that the machine was defrosting. We phoned Samsung again and they have an engineer coming out tomorrow (Friday). They said to switch the machine off for an hour and see if that cleared it anyway. It didn’t, so the man will come tomorrow.
Since then the display is effectively displaying what the interior temps are, i.e. Little or no coldness!!! The freezer usually between -1 and 1. The fridge is between 18 and 24. Twice in the last 24 hours the machine has kicked in and started to freeze. Last night it started to work and this morning the freezer was at -12 only for it to cut out and return to -1 again!!!
Does all this point to the usual suspects that have been regularly discussed on here? I don’t want the engineer giving me any excuses. Forewarned is Forearmed!!!
I know the machine has a 2 year warranty but I don’t want this happening all the time. £500 and 2 weeks use is poor. My previous “normal” Indesit machine lasted 13 years before needing replaced!!!
Any help would be appreciated.

Before you take it further where did you buy it from?

We bought it from Comet on-line. I contacted Samsung as it has the 2 year warranty.
I am sure you are aware that Comet are an atrocious company to deal with but they were the only company that had it at the time at that price. Unless it turns out to be completely knackered I wouldn’t approach them.

At two weeks old I’d doubt it’s the usual problems, they seem to take a while to manifect themselves. But I’m no expert on Samsung, hate the things. 😉
It sounds like either an electronic failure (hardly unusual) or possibly a compressor failure.
I thought Comet had a 28 day exchange policy as many retailers do, but looking at their website there appears to be no mention of it.

I think the 28 day policy is only in-store. The do anything to stop you getting your money back though.
My Dad had to go through WHICH to get his broken Panasonic DVD Recorder back that they had for 6 weeks to repair at a cost to them of £147 on a £170 machine! It would have been easier just to give his money back and let him buy another as he wanted to do. The rudeness and arrogance of the shop staff was staggering!
The engineer is on his way to see the Samsung as I write. Hopefully it will be resolved.

Well it is fixed now!
The engineer took the bottom panel of the inside of the freezer off and it was encased in ice behind it. He steamed that off. He then took off the top panel where the fan is and we both saw the problem! The plug for the bottom heater had not been plugged in when it was made at the factory!!!
The engineer was so shocked he took a photo of it! LOL!!!
So hopefully it will be fine. Incidentally, he said that the Samsung machines are generally no worse than any other machine for problems and that the RS20 models have less to go wrong in the first place. It wouldn’t put him off buying one though.
