ParticipantI have a problem with an RS20CCMS fridge freezer. The freezer temp display starting flashing this morning and the food in the freezer began to defrost. This evening the fridge display began to flash as well and that has now gone up to room temperature.
If i turn it off at the socket, and then back on again, the fridge temp display briefly reads 4 before the rest of the display lights up.
Could this be a problem with the defrost sensor as mentioned on the site?
If so what reading should I get across the wires on the sensor? Many thanks in advance.

Bryan,
To be honest by the time I got round to taking it apart the whole thing was completely defrosted. Since my original post I found the readings for the defrost sensor and tested it. It should read 13K ohms and mine reads 5K at room temperature. Also it is the old white type. The thermal fuse is fine, zero resistance. So I will order a new defrost sensor and see what happens with that fitted. At £13 including postage it is cheap enough.

Fitted the defrost sensor this evening.
The appliance now runs, and the displays are static (ie. not flashing the temperature readings as before) but it is obviously not cooling as the temperature readings are not dropping.
Will take it apart again tomorrow and check the connnectors.
Is it possible I have another fault as well?

Not getting a lot of feedback on this one!
So, if when I first turn the appliance on and I get 4 displayed in the fridge temperature display, is this an error code? If so does it relate to the R-FAN, where can I find this, and how do I test it?

Been in touch with a repair company, they seem doubtful about fixing the fault, and are not inspiring me with much confidence.
Could the defrost heaters be the cause of my problem? I haven’t tested them yet, as initially I thought it unlikely.October 18, 2009 at 9:10 pm #296846GlenM

Just in case anyone actually reads this forum and is interested!
Finally got this mended last week. Had an engineer out and he replaced the compressor, has been alright for 3 days now, so looks promising.
