hi. there’s a few related threads on here and mine is a bit of a variation.
my fridge is about 5 years old and ive already had the official repair a few years ago by a Samsung agent – new evaporator cover/defrost sensor (black one)/transfer clip etc. The frosting problem has returned about 2 weeks ago and Samsung say that there is only one fix available under the ‘extended’ warranty. i tested all the components and they all seem to be within limits
    – defrost sensor 6.iKohms at approx 17 degreesC and 11.9Kohms in iced water appox 3 degreesC
    – defrost heater 490 ohms
    – tray heater 2.1Kohms
    – thermal fuse continuity ok

is there anything else which i should check, and is it possible the controller might be at fault??

i did find that the ‘draft’ seal on the cover was a bit dodgy looking in paces so i replaced with a new draft seal of similar type. that was only today so i’ll not know till a few days time or more.
    many thanks in advance

The insulation on the evaporator cover breaks down and the insulation gets wet and allows the fan to seize.

If it is soft frost all over the evaporator then you have a defrost fault.

If it is frost and ice it is most likely the cover needs replacing they seam to last 2 to 3 years.

    thanks Bob

it’s frost and ice, lots of ice. i guess i’ll see how my new seal on the cover performs over the next week or so and take it from there.

    Hi Phil

No new seal will cure the problem. The problem is the design of the cover made out of polistyrine which soaks up water and then freezes then expands. It is a Samsung design fault but the deny it.

well, i fitted a brand new cover 5 days ago and it has iced up again!!! anybody have any suggestions? all the components are metering as ok (as per my original post) could it be the defrost sensor??
    thanks

Re: Samsung RS21 – another thread re frosting

i bit the bullet and bought the rest of the repair kit parts – defrost sensor, thermal fuse, both heaters – and fitted them a week ago. could’ve taken many weeks doing one at a time at which point the new cover may have become damaged by prolonged over-frosting and saturation. so far so good a week in. strange (unless things go pear shaped again) that all the above components were metering as ok against the recommended values.
