Fixed the fridge not cooling and iced up problem. A couple of weeks later the freezer stopped working correctly and is now cycling between -5 and +1C. Changed the defrost sensor and thermal fuse in the freezer but with no change. There is no ice behind the fan cover and the fan is working fine. No faults showing on testing the front panel. Any ideas other than getting an engineer to check out the compressor? I am at the stage of buying a replacement, so any ideas what an engineer visit / repair would cost?

That’s the first step, which may have saved you throwing the parts at it. 😉
Other than that the only thing I can think on is that the compressor is gone and, if that’s the case, you’re looking at a sizeable bill to repair it.
