Participantsuddenly we had no water at the dispenser, checked to make sure supply was there and is, had water at the ice maker though. Noticed a lot of ice build up on the back panel and that the water cooler by the Veg basket was frozen also.
Used a hairdrier gently to see if this would fix it but found that the water cooler section was split and dripping water as it thawed out.
First question is can this be replaced and secondly anyone an idea as to why it froze up and what I should do about it?Thanks in advance

hi alscoob
Sounds like the defrost problem that is common in RS21s. It can be a combination or one of 5 things which go faulty. Defrost sensor, thermal fuse, defrost main heater, defrost tray heater, back panel. I fixed mine a few weeks ago, same problem. My advice would be to replace all bits in one go, trial and error could take weeks and you’ve gotta defrost and strip the back out each time. The full repair kit cost me about 100 quid and there’s good advice and videos online on how to go about it. You will also need a new water bottle.
When you get round to it, use a hair dryer propped outside the fridge to quickly defrost but be sure that the bottom drain hole is clear before starting up again, check by pouring some water down and seeing it drain away. This takes a bit longer to clear but will cause probs if still blocked when you start up again.April 9, 2014 at 6:18 am #412224alscoob

Hi phinne, thanks for the input. Just had a look at it again this morning and the back cover inside the fridge has ice forming on the surface again, also don’t seem to hear a fan stop when you open the door like we used to.
Do you know if there is a complete kit available or is it a question of buying the bits individually?

i got my bits on ukanfixit.co.uk who sell them as a kit and also have some good stuff on their site as to how to fix it. The store on here also has all the bits and you could compare the prices. I tested all the parts on my fridge as per instructions on ukanfixit and they all metered out as ok, hence going for a swap out of all the bits in one go eventually. you could try testing and replacing one bit at a time but, as i said, this could take some time. It is likely that you will need the new cover whatever is wrong as the polystyrene in this breaks down with ice/water ingress and is seemingly un-repairable

good luck. a couple of wee tips from my experience, as i already said, make sure well defrosted, including the bottom drain hole. go easy taking out the old main defrost heater, you can cut your hands on – and damage the evaporator fins, best to gently twist open the metal retainers st both sides with pliers. Make sure the new cover panel fits on snug, there are little retaining clips both sides and i had a bit of maneuvering to get these to stay in place.

good to hear – though i would wait a few days to be sure (although there is no reason why all shouldn’t be good).
now for me to pick your brains a bit. i discovered yesterday that my water bottle was leaking, noticed air spurts when using the water dispenser and when i took out the bottom drawer, low and behold a puddle. obviously burst when it froze previously even though just a tiny hole. Q. was the bottle difficult to fit? the pipe to the valve at the back seems a bit awkward looking. -
