hello i thought i would start a new topic about this fridge.im just wondering how many people have had the same problem as me.the noisey fan due to drain hole too small.it would be good to get a few others as i have contacted watchdog as it seems this is a common fault and the more people that contact them the better it is for all of us…just say lo and what problem you have had and also how long ago you got the fridge and i will then send this page to watchdog,or you could contact them via

    thanks

Contacting Watchdog simply because the fan is noisy is hardly going to get them leaping from their desks and on your case now is it?

Of course, you could get an engineer to fit the updated cover panel for you and that would be an end of it.

Or do it yourself – this is what you want:

its not just the fan.and it only does it because the drain hole is too small.so is this not a manufacturing fault.

that means i have to pay for a manufacuring fault..i see now why this site was satrted.
as the only help offered is to buy the part myself or have an engineer fit it.now dont get me wrong thanks for the advice.but i should not have to pay for it.

Samsung have made design modifications to overcome the problem you are having. I see where you are coming from in your original post but unless you have taken out extended warranty on the product you will have to stand the expense in order to rectify it.

However, contacting Samsung directly is always the best route to take if you feel they should have additional responsibilities towards you in this case. Have you not taken that route I wonder?

Re: samsung rs21dcns ..WHO ELSE HAS HAD PROBLEMS

i have taken it up with currys,as this is where i purchased it from,as i have looked around i have seen the many posts about the rubbish service of samsung offer.its not right that samsung know there is a design fault with this fridge and are not prepared to do anything about it.there is actualy case law about such things…just because the 2 year warranty has ended does not mean the item can just break down…sorry to ramble on but i know what am trying to say but getting it wrote down is not as easy as i thought.
how many of the fridge engineers on this forum have been to peoples houses and fixed the said item.the way it gets talked about there must be some.right
best thing i can do is prove the fault to currys, and have them pay for it.
is there any engineer local to halifax west yorkshire, who is willing to come and have a look and fill out a report…thanks again..

    sale of goods act 1979
if faulty too early in stage of life i can pursue (currys) for repair or partial refund.after the warranty has ended…its summat like that anyway..am sure someone much cleverer then me will correct it..
    .

just another quicky,i used to love this fridge so much so i talked my mate into getting 1,lol….will his be the same in 18 months as he only got his a bit ago..when did samsung realise there was a problem with the drain hole and even more impotant, when did they change the product..thanks glenn

Re: samsung rs21dcns ..WHO ELSE HAS HAD PROBLEMS

penguin hit the nail on the head

change the evaporator cover, and your problem will be cured

there are other issues though, which customers sometimes appear blissfully unaware of

the drain hole being too small doesnt make the fan noisey.. its a build up of condensation, or in most cases excessive condensation , that causes the fan to go noisey, and often if not sorted out, stops the fan completely

how do we get excessive condensation?

leaving things uncovered in the fridge… vegetables , fruit, half eaten tins of beans.. anything that contains water

have u ever put a tomato in the middle of the fridge and left it there?
does it go wrinkly and deteriorates quickly?

thats because ALL fridge freezers work on a process of evaporation and condensation, therefore, antything left uncovered/ open will naturally evaporate.. and since frost free fridge freezers use a fan to accelerate the cooling process, the moisture is removed quicker…

and where does all the moisture go? towards the fan and the evaporator, and excessive amounts WILL cause bad drainage

it does state in the manual that things should be covered, or in a food bag

moisture is the worst thing for a frost free, mainly because its water, and water FREEZES

yes ive personally been to some of these fridge freezers in the field, and certainly, almost everytime i opened the door of the fridge, theres been masses of salad, fruit, jellies , open cans etc , purely because of the size of the fridge

all i ever do is change the evaporator cover (cos believe me its a hell of a lot faster than defrosting the drain hole with a hairdryer) have a friendly chat with the customer as to better ways of aiding the cooling process.. and quite often i dont go back to them

hard to explain this really, and its a hard subject to talk to customers about, cos, as most engineers will tell youthe usual answer is … ‘not me – i dont do that’

i hope this helps… if we all repaired stuff free outside of guarantee, then no1 would have a job.. be fair, in todays climate, its hard to find an appliance which will give you a fantastic lifespan..

and throwing the word ‘watchdog’ at people no longer has the effect you think it has.. they got serious fish to fry these days.. they wont worry about a noisy fan in a samsung fridge.

    thanx
