    Hello

I have a side by side American style fridge freezer. The digital display is showing the temeratures at -20 (freezer) and 2 (fridge). The freezer is still frozen BUT the fridge is not 2. Everything inside is warm (although the bottom of the fridge is colder).

    Any ideas?

I have spoken to a domestic repair man and he has suggested that the Fan motor has failed ? Cost of £165 to repair.

    Many thanks

    oooooh

    u read through this forum?

the evaporator cover drain channel will be blocked with ice..

people deal with it in different ways

first of all, you could try defrosting it for 36hrs, thatll get rid of the ice

there is a replacement evaporator cover available , the nice guys here can supply u with both the part number and supply the part

i always go down the defrost option first, quite often, later models are fitted with the new evaporator cover, so it makes little difference

if it keeps reoccurring, then theres a very good chance the thermal fuse will have gone

the new evaporator cover comes with a fan motor attatched, but its usually the build up of ice that just stops it from running

quite often people just change the evaporator cover, because the freezer rammed with food, and its a lot to lose all at once!

power of if your gonna open it up to see!! as always, safety first

Re: SAMSUNG RS21DCSV – Fridge not working

I’ve had this same problem over and over again for the past year.

I replaced the front panel last November.

Problem has reoccured, fan has been very noisy for the past week, took it apart to defrost today. Once again, caked with ice.

I wish there was a real solution for this problem. The new cover seems to be better than the old one, but still not a permanent fix.

Re: SAMSUNG RS21DCSV – Fridge not working

helo_75 – do you actually know where the defrosting termal fuse is located.
I’m finding it absolutely impossible to find a technical manual to download.
I’ve already modified my existing evaporator cover to match the new version, which a friend if mine had purchased. Easy enough to do, just stanley blade the polystyrene drain hole from the bottom of the fan ‘chamber’, but that just prolongs the agony.
It’s obvious that the defrosting thermal wires in the drain channel at the bottom of the cooling element, are not being fed any current.
I’m hoping it’ll be the thermal fuse you’ve suggested, any other ideas ?

    Hi Jerry
It is advisable that if you arent electrically compedent then its advisable to arrange a service engineer as the thermal fuse is a saftey component which may have been caused by a secondery component failure.

Re: SAMSUNG RS21DCSV – Fridge not working

id have to go along with r600a im afraid
if uve had the evaporator cover off, and u were competent, ud spot it

sorry, im gonna have to advise get someone out to it, it wont be massively expensive

in here, we can only give out general advice, ive had the email warning me of too much advice, and i take the point that if it went wrong, inevitably, ud blame the person who advised u

    thanx

Re: SAMSUNG RS21DCSV – Fridge not working

I hope you read this in time. I have had exactly the same problem with my RS20CCMS. It was initially diagnosed as a gas problem, then compressor, but the truth of the matter is that there is a design fault with the machine. It can be temporarily helped by drilling bigger drain holes, removing some insulation. Samsung are singularly unhelpful until you push and push (if you can stand it).

The problem will recur, freezing up inside, stopping the fan and causing temperature loss. Check your rights with Trading Standards. You may have redress even if the machine is out of warranty.

    Good Luck

Usually when this problem comes up, samsung insist you change the sensor and the fan, everytime this has been done we never hear anything from the customer again, unless its a totally unrelated fault
