ParticipantThe fridge fan on my Samsung RS21KGRS Fridge Freezer keeps icing up. The ice eventually fouls the fan and one has burnt out so far. It seems that condensation from the fan enclosure drips onto the top of the chiller coils and creates an ice plug. Has any one else encountered this problem?

If the appliance is under 2 years old get Samsung to repair it under the guarantee. If outside this period read up on the search area putting in ‘samsung rs21’ and then decide which way to go.

Hi, Tho not the same model as yours, just thouht I’d add to this thread by saying I have a samsung rs21dgrs model which has failed after 9 months. The failure seems to be a very common one with Samsung RS range so this might help.
The engineer who came to fix it tells me that he has personally fixed 70 of this model over the past year with the same fault which is a design fault known to samsung.
The problem appears to be a mechanical one in that there is insufficient contact between heat transmitting parts in the rear panel which was intended to prevent ice build up behind the internal rear panel. Ice builds up and eventually impedes the fan which in turn fails. They have introduced a modification to fix……however 7 days after a new fan unit was put in with this bodge our unit has started to make the same fan noise again. Not sure what will be their next move but Having read the huge number of similar experiences on this and other forums I’ll be pressing for an exchange not another ‘fix’!October 9, 2007 at 8:21 pm #229052helo_75
Participantyep, 70, and hes probably fixed none of them, its 9mths old, is it really that unusual for a samsung agent to fix samsung machines?
by slagging the machine off, it justifies his next call, cos theyre just rubbish arent they
maybe if hed fixed it, he wouldnt be coming back, now would he?
does no one ever think it cant transfer the heat because there isnt any there?
reality check please?
im usually quite vocal regarding the samsung fridge freezer scenario, but ive stopped now because under informed people are making sweeping statements about things they obviously have no idea about
get someone out who knows what theyre doing!!

Well thanks for the benefit of your wisdom!! For my part just trying to share what I’ve been told by an Engineer who was fixing an expensive purchase under warranty. And true, I know very little about the technicalities. As a consumer I have to take at face value what the ‘experts’ tell me and I thought I’d share.
Under the Sale of Goods act in the UK the consumer has rights extending 6 years following a purchase of goods or services – irrespective of any ‘guarantees’….instead of accepting Companies like Samsung hiding behind their ‘warranties to cover up known design faults which render their products unsuitable for purpose, more consumers should seek recourse through the courts. Instead of trying to fix these machines themselves which in itself would compromise their case.October 11, 2007 at 8:57 pm #229054helo_75
Participantat exactly what point was your machine rendered unrepairable?
it continues to amaze me how people still pay to have expensive repairs done to get their £20.000 car through its mot after 3 years – yet whinge and go to court if their £179 indesit washer didnt last 6 years!!
when are you going to realise that the manufacturers have every right to try and execute a suitable repair over a reasonable period of time? samsung are actually pretty dam good at fixing faults, i know, i sat for 2 hrs listening to one of their tech guys run through possible problems and suitable fixes
if the engineer that visited you that day was one of mine, he would be in serious trouble for advising what he did, its loose lips like that that cause people to jump the gun and demand replacements when the cures actually pretty simple
it can be fixed.. simple as, and it would certainly be quicker than just giving you another one because YOU deem it necessary
