ParticipantHi there,
I’m having a problem with my samsung fridge (RS21NCMS). A few nights ago it started to make a really funny noise that to me sounded like the fan. Since then the fridge has stopped working and isn’t cooling 🙁 It’s only 3yrs old but samsung don’t want to know 😡
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem, any help much appreciated 😀
Many thanks
Leanne. 😀June 13, 2007 at 5:03 pm #216908Dales-Electronic

First things first do this – press and hold the top two facia buttons, the display will start to flash (keep the buttons held in), the facia will go blank and then tell us if any of the lines that make up the freezer/fridge numbers light up. This will indicate what you need replacing. In all probability you will need an evaporator cover, a temperature sensor and possibly a thermal fuse.

Thanks. I’v just done the self diagnostic check (I assume thats what you would call it) and the display stayed blank for about 20 seconds then just returned to the temperature settings screen as normal. I’m assuming this means that the pcb’s and compresor etc are functioning properly? Now what do i do 😆

Just to add. The fridge is over 3 years old now and this is the first problem we have had. I removed the internal covers off this afternoon and the bottom left area had a build up of ice, of which i have now got rid of by leaving the fridge off for 5 hours. Everything now seems to be working fine but after reading other posts on this board i believe this to be only temporary.

You will probably need to change the evaporator cover if there is no great issue with ice build up. This can be sourced from ‘shop@’ on the left sidebar.

Hi Leanne
If your display is showing blank then the probable cause will be the defrost sensor, this will stop the unit defrosting but doesnt always show as an error code.
If you find that you still have a problem then chage this and it should cure your fault.

If you pressed the top 2 buttons and held them in for a few seconds you have gone into the engineers setting Mode.
If it has not returned to the normal display the turn it off at the mains and leave it off for 15 mins.
When you turn it back on it should reset to the normal display.
