ParticipantHi. This is the first time I have used your site. I have had the fridge / freezer for approximately 2 1/2 years from new.
My fridge is at +14c and the freezer is at -20c. I was told to defrost the freezer and then the fault would go away. It did and for about 2 weeks all was well but now the fridge is warm again. When I defrosted it there was a small puddle of water in the bottom of the fridge which I wiped away.
Can you suggest anythong else please?
Many thanks,
Andy

Not that I recall. I can here the motor as the freezer works fine. The odd thing is that the temperature display varies between 3c & 17c but the fridge is definately warm. The fridge worked okay for a couple of weeks after the defrosting but is now kaput again.
I am tempted to taking the panel off at the rear of the inside of the fridge but I am not sure what I am looking for.

Please help.
I have now noticed that some days the fridge display says 3c and others it is 12 -14c. However at all times the bottom of the fridge appears cool and the top warm. Selecting power cool doesn’t do anything.
Can you suggest anything or do I need an engineer?
Many thanks,
Andy

I have exactly the same problem.
In my case though, before the fridge went the fridge fan became noisy. It sounded like the fan blade edges were catching on something (ice ?). If the fridge door was opened whilst the fan was running then I could hear the fan grinding to a halt.
My fridge temp is also going up and down. It seems to slowly climb to 12degC and then the next time I look it shows 3degC (which is what it is set to). Then if I open the fridge door it very quickly jumps to 8degC.
I have called out an engineer (fortunately mine is still in warranty) but he doesnt come till next Thursday (10th Aug). Should I turn off the entire fridge freezer to completly defrost it prior to his visit or should I just leave it so he can more easily diagnose the problem. The freezer section seems perfectly normal.
Oh and at the same time the water dispenser has stopped working too but ice dspensing is normal. I also dont remember the deodourising light being on all the time
Thanks

Hi
The problems will really need an engineer unless you are electrically compedent.
If you are then I can go through the most likely faults on the phone,my number is 07961365484.
If at any stage of the telephone call I find that you are not compedent inmy mind then no technical will be given.

Hi Bryan,
You are probably responding to AndyT as I kinda highjacked his thread. I do consider myself to be a competent engineer but I think in my case since it is still under warranty I better not mess with it in case I somehow invalid the warranty.
Perhaps you could advise whether I should defrost mine before the engineer visit or just leave it alone.
I have since read loads of posts on this site re the RS21 and I do seem to have the classic defrost problem. It sounds like it could be the defrost heater or water ingress into a panel. It’s good to be clued up about the possible faults so the engineer cant fob me off with “just defrost the fridge and it will be fine ….”. I havent tried pressing the two top buttons to see if a fault code has been recorded.

Hi andyx
Dont turn the appliance off before the engineer arrives as you will clear the fault code off the appliance, possible defrost sensor, thermal overload fault.

Bryan,
Thanks very much for that – I wil leave it alone.
I did put it in its diagnostic mode and the right hand digit of the fridge temp display has its bottom most segment lit. Is this error code fairly generic, ie “something is wrong with the fridge defrost cycle” or is it more specific and point to a particular component failure ? Again it is good to have knowledge so I can avoid any BS from the engineer.
Many thanks for being so helpful and informative Bryan

Hi Andyx
You may need a new evaperater cover assembly if the fan has been jammed with ice.

The Comet engineer turned up this morning. He ended up replacing the evaporator cover (as suspected by Bryan) and one of the sensors that he said seem to be OK on the meter but he has seen fail before when powered.
So hopefully now my Samsung is fixed. The water dispenser tank still needs to unfreeze to get that back on stream again.
Very informative website, thanks for all contributions from knowledgable engineers.

Hi Guys,
Since my last post I removed the evaporator cover and defrosted all the ice off the pipe work. I also dried out the cover. Once refitted all was well…for about 3 weeks. It has now started do the same again. I am told there is a modified cover assembly as it would appear that once saturated it is impossible to dry the polystyrene fully.
Can anyone quote me a price please.
Many thanks,
AndyT

It’s expensive for a rear panel and the fan motor wiring from the old unit may have to be swopped onto the new one as the plugs have changed.
If you know how to do it…..
The sensor should read around 5K to 8K and will drop if you warm it with a hair dryer. The thermal fuse should register continuity. If these are ok then a new rear panel may solve your problem.
Dave Conway acn supply a panel from our shop, he will respond probably tommorrow.
Part number….SAMDA6300217L should fit

Hi it looks like alot of Samsung side by sides go wrong either before or after 2 years.
I am having same problems that has been described but my model no. is RS21NCSV.
Temp @ 21 for Fridge but Freezer is fine.
My Fan did make a whirring noise before failing.
Phoned Samsung but they cannot do anything as my warranty ran out about 2 months ago. But I paid for so much for the product, I wouldn’t expect it to fail just over tow years. I am going to write to complain.
In the meantime all repairers that I have phoned cannot repair Samsung fridge freezers.
Samsung recommended an approved repairers and they want £93 + Parts for a call out and fixing the item.
Is this the going the rate?
Can some one give me any ideas how much it will cost for parts?
Any help and advice before this Weds. would be appreciated. Many Thanks
