ParticipantHi,
I’ve got a Samsung RSG5UCRS American Fridge Freezer, which is out of warranty.
It’s got a couple of problems.
1. The fridge part isn’t staying chilled.
2. The LED display isn’t working correctly – not all the LED segments light up correctly on the numbers.I’ve read quite a bit about the RS21 design flaw. Is the RSG5UCRS subject to the same problem? I was going to disassemble the inside back panel to see if everything is frozen up in there. Does anyone else have any advice on this please?
I’m assuming I’d be able to buy a replacement LED display? Please does anyone know where I could get the disassembly instructions for the freezer door so that I could replace the LED display myself? I can’t find anything on the internet beyond removing the door, as stated in the user manual.
Thanks.

You need to check first it is a display PCB as on this model it displays fault codes.
On the back of the fridge freezer it normally has a list of display codes and how to set self diagnostics.

The LED display shows numbers for both the temperature in the freezer and the fridge, but they don’t light up properly. That’s one of my problems.
I’ve already put the thing into diagnostics mode, but I can’t read the error codes properly because the LED display isn’t working – some segments do not light up.
Thanks.

Hi
This was a common problem with the RSG5 where the display was not displaying full digits.
As for the fridge not cooling the fridge evaperator cover is the same design as the RS21 made with blown polystyrene which over a period of time gets saturated thus freezing it and stopping the fan.
Press the Freezer Temp and the Child Lock buttons for 10 seconds at the same time.
2-1) When the Power Freeze and the Lighting buttons(Freezer Temp and Child Lock buttons for RSG5B* Model) are held down for 6 seconds at the same time during normal operation, the temperature setting display will blink at an interval of 0.5 sec for 2 seconds(4 seconds for RSG5B* Model). When the Power Freeze and the Lighting buttons are held down for 8 seconds(10 seconds for RSG5B* Model) including 2 seconds (4 seconds for RSG5B* Model) LED blinking at the same time, it sends out “Ding-Dong” sound and goes into the Self-Diagnosis function.
2-2) When it goes into the Self-Diagnosis, the entire display panel goes off and when there is any error, relevant segments will blink at an interval of 0.5 sec. let me know which segments flash.Bryan

If you have tried the diagnostics then I would. Say the display PCB is faulty if the display has segments missing.
This was a common problem.
I have found sometimes it may also have a main PCB fault when the new display has been fitted.
The display lights up ok when replaced but the main PCB gives erratic running of the appliance.

Thanks both for your replies.
If the LED display missing segments was a common problem, was there a common solution?
i.e. would it just be a case of replacing the LED unit? Or might it be some other PCB which needs replacing?
Also, please do you have any ideas where I could find disassembling instructions for the door so that I could remove the LED unit?
Thanks again.

Hi,
I have a RSG5UCRS. I bought it with our wedding money & cost £1500 in 2009. The warranty has expired now. So I have appliance cover which I bought Seperatley.
My freezer suddenly just stopped freezing & I lost all my food, as it all defrosted. The temp on the display went from -24 to about 15 !! There was a buzzing noise too and a strange smell. The fridge also did the same & temp went up & became warm.
I called my appliance insurance. They sent engineer who said it was the motor. He ordered a new one. But when he came back to fit new motor, he said that the old motor had leaked oil into the system. He said he couldn’t clear it out as it was in the system somewhere where he physically couldn’t clear it out. The freezer never worked again but fridge worked for just a few days after.
I didn’t realise My insurance doesnt cover me with like for like. They have offered to give me £200 towards the cost of a new one but I just don’t have the extra £1000 to put towards buying a new one.
i have since read lots of threads about samsung models with problems. Can anyone offer me any help or advice ??
