    Hi all,
I have a Samsung American style fridge freezer, model rsg5uumh.
The problem I’m having is as follows…
The fridge side works perfectly fine but the freezer isn’t getting cold enough.
The display for the freezer side tells me it is at -20c but the two thermometers I placed inside tell me it is at -3c. I have replaced both temperature sensors, one in the ceiling at the top and the one that is attached to the evaporator. I have also tried a replacement main board as well as having the gas level checked. The fan inside the freezer runs OK, the compressor seems to run OK as well as the fan for the compressor. there is no blockage underneath for air flow having been fully blown out with an air line and cleaned out fully. The door seals also check out ok
Yet still the freezer will not go below -5c. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be and what to do?

I’ve just had a look at the evaporator and it has frost only on the top part, the lower three quarters are clear of any frost. The compressor only seems to stop when in defrost mode.
    Do I suspect the Compressor?

It could also be low on Gas as the compressor runs all the time.

As it is an inverter compressor if the gas was not removed and then the gas was not weighed in it may still be undercharged.

If the compressor is not pumping correctly it will show up when you Regas.

No you would need a refrigeration engineer preferably F Gas registered or city & Guilds 2078 & 2079 certified.

Please can you tell me if you ever fixed this issue. I have the same appliance with the same problem and the engineer said it was a very small gas leaks that was not repairable and it couldn’t be regassed because of the leak.

It is rare to get gas leaks on Samsung and if you get a leak it is normally in an area you can repair it.

As long as the leak can be found it can be repaired.

Re: Samsung rsg5uumh freezer not freezing correctly

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply. The guy was a Samsung approved engineer and he said the same, it is incredibly rare to get a leak in a Samsung. It appears to be in the aluminium evaporator.
Most of it seems to be foamed into the body of the appliance, so getting at it appears to be tricky. He wouldn’t regas because it has a leak.
Do you know how I can find someone who can find the leak and repair, regas? Everyone I’ve spoken to locally is not offering a repair solution……
    Your knowledge is appreciated.

Re: Samsung rsg5uumh freezer not freezing correctly

If it is in the evaporator then a new evaporator can be fitted.

Just because he was Samsung approved does not mean he is competent to do system Regas and repair work.

You will need to find a local engineer who is F Gas or Refcom registered or City & Guilds 2078 and 2079 safe handling of refrigerants.

    Hope this helps.

The evaporator service kits include the evaporator, the heaters and sensors and are not that expensive but you would need a quote for the call out and Labour.

I have now retired and you will find it is now harder to find engineers able to carry out system work so with the fault you have it may be better to put the money towards a new American style fridge freezer as the prices have come down.

The good engineers are getting less due to engineers retiring and less coming into the trade as more and more products are becoming throw away due to the lower cost to buy.

Thanks Bob, can you be tempted out of retirement if you are near the SE / Kent? It’s a thousand quid fridge freezer, so not throw away for me!!! I agree with you, in general it’s hard to find people who can fix things, rather than just replace things.
I appreciate your comments. If I get it fixed I will let you know.
