Samsung RSH1DBRS fridge compart icing but not usual suspects

Hi Folks,

Customer describes icing up, no water delivery and noisy fan.

I attended defrosted machine today.

defrost heater continuity at about 360 ohms.

gutter and drain not blocked.

continuity across fan (had clearly been working anyway, as customer had reported it as being noisy).

evaporator cover in good condition.

freezer not iced up.

Two possibilities occur to me.

1) defrost timer not working. I assume it’s electronic, but are both fridge and freezer heaters controlled from the same timer? Is there a way of testing it without waiting 24 hrs for it to cycle?

2) One or both thermal cut-outs in series with the heater are cutting out too low. Does this happen on this machine?

This is the one without a gutter heater and just an ‘L’ shaped heater with two black plastic coated cut-outs attached to the evaporator frame. God knows how it’s supposed to defrost everything under there.

I notice that Samsung have revised the heater design a couple of times but there seems to be disagreement about which is the current/best one to use as a replacement (just in case it does need replacing).
