ParticipantHi,
I have the RSH1DTMH samsung FF of which has started acting up. (6+ years old)Having done some investigation on the web Ive discovered that it’s a widely known fault but my machine is well out of its warranty now.
The problem started with it making strange noises 8 maybe 9 months ago of which I found to be the internal fan and it’s motor housing freezing up, and the fan scrapping ice as it tries to turn – I have completely removed the inside panel and defrosted both the fridge and panel and then replaced – all good.
Fast forward to Easter weekend and I find the same problem has re-occurred so I repeat and remove all the ice and replace but this time I discovered on the net via a youtube video that a chap suggests moving the sensor from the right to left hand side as part of modification, (my wire long enough)
Then he also suggests fridge defrost temp is altered by holding Freezer and Vacation for 17 secs and waiting for second beep then setting to 13 on right hand side (using fridge button)and 3 on left hand side (using freezer button)
– All good I thought and we move forward a week and a half and I find a puddle on the floor on the freezer side, clean it up and think nothing of it (blaming kids) move to today and I find a small puddle on the fridge side and upon opening fridge I find under the plastic tray a small amount of water, not huge but enough…
I’m now wondering if these fridge defrost settings need tweaking again but I dont know to what I should change it to ?
I will remove back panel again tomorrow to see if any frosting has occurred and advise in the afternoon.
Can anyone please tell me what the default settings are so I can change it back (and deal with regular defrosts) and / or suggest an alternate setting to try ?
Thanks

dont do a lot of fridges but all units have a drain to let the water run out into a tray at the rear during defrost
is it blocked ?Dave

Hi
Is there a ice build up on the left hand side vent just above the salad drawers ? Or ice on the rear panel behind the salad drawers ?.

Hi, yes there was ice build up of which I’ve cleared and moved the sensor over from R to L hand side. I altered the settings as suggested within his video and now I’m finding tiny pools of water where the defrost settings have been altered. Previously only had ice build up and no tiny pools of water.
I will be opening the back again later today to see if any new ice build up and will check drain hole as suggested by another member.
Can you suggest alternative settings ?
Thanks

I would say the drain is iced up.
After six years I would say you also need to replace the rear panel as the polystyrene insulation starts to absorb water and does not insulate correctly.

Indeed, the drain hole was frozen solid hence the water overspill into the fridge area – thanks for that !
I cleared this out using the trusty hair dryer and then checked the rear to ensure the exit pipelines were clear, this was proven to be slowly clearing as I could feel the defrosting water as it dripped through. After a while I then ran some hot water through from the inside and saw it complete it’s journey through to the back and into the tray, I know this drain route is now clear… (for how long?) All reassembled and watching with interest.
Which parts will need to be replaced if this re-occurs ?
I mentioned in my first post about how I’d followed some instructions (hold two keys for 17 secs) and changed some defrost settings, as the unit was unplugged today (1.5 hours maybe) would this reset or would it hold my altered values as suggested by the engineer on youtube?
Does anyone know the default values for this defrost option, then I could try a mid way selection to see if it helps .Thanks
