ParticipantLast week our fridge freezer has stated to make a buzzing sound.
The buzzing sound stops when the door is opened (sound doesn’t immediately cut off its sound a motor that slows then comes to a top over about 2 seconds), this starts up again when the door is closed.I’ve check all the obvious things… anything that might be vibrating, checked the fridge is level, check theres enough space around the back for air to circulate. Taken off the small back panel at the bottom I’ve hoovered any dust off the exposed parts at the back that I can see.
The origin of the sound itself seems to be coming from and area 2/3rds down the to the right hand side of the fridge on the back.
Ive also noticed a small build up of solid ice on one of the screws on the inside of the fridge.
I’m no refrigerator engineer but I’m guessing it maybe or may not be something thats freezing over maybe a fan, so first thing I will try is a defrost.
The unfortunate thing is if that the warranty ended 7 weeks ago… just my luck if there something seriously wrong with it!
Any ideas what the problem might be?
ThanksWayne

It will need a repair doing, but as it is just out of warranty I would push for Samsung to foot the bill. This is a recognised problem and Samsung will know all about it when you contact them.
The buzzing noise is a build up of ice behind the panel at the back of the inside of your fridge and the fan is just skimming the ice build up. When you open the door the fan stops (and stops skimming the ice) hence the silence. Close the door and the fan starts skimming the ice again. You can switch the fridge off to defrost the fridge (overnight) but the build up of ice will start again, because of your fault.
Let us know how you get on with Samsung.

Thanks for the replies.
I defrosted it last night and no its back to running silent I wonder how long it will last.
I now seen loads of articles on this matter didn’t relise how common the was.
I’ve emailed Samsung and wil see what they say.

It does actually state in the watchdog broadcast
“With Immediate effect samsung will now provide extended 5 years in respect of this fault. So anyone who’s fridge develops the same problem will have it repaired free”I would assume I fall under that bracket
