    Hi,

I have had a Samsung SR-2028CSS american style fridge/freezer for 5 years now but recently my wife has noticed a few problems with it.

Firstly, there seems to be condensation appearing on the shelves within the fridge and in the freezer, whilst it says its -20 temp, some food feels slightly unfrozen e.g the slices of a loaf of bread are slightly soft instead of rock hard.

On finding this my wife called Currys and spoke to the technician there and he seems to think it sounded like the “gas cylinder” had run out which usually happens after about 5 years. Is this right ?

I was surprised as i never knew that these appliances had a small gas cylinder and that it needed changing. If this is the case, is it something i can do or is it the usual £75 call out fee etc.

    Thanks for any help.

    Neil.

    Hi Neil,

Eh? What the stuff is that all about?

I often find myself reminding people that, if a domestic refrigerant system doesn’t leak inside the first 18 months then it is highly unlikely that a “leak” fault will manifest itself beyond that without physical damage to the pipework. It is a sealed system!

It is possible that you have a weak compressor or a control fault, which is more likely as Samsung compressor failures are rare TBH, but it almost certainly won’t need gas and there’s no such thing as a “gas cylinder”.

    Hi

The problem will most likely be a defrost problem in the freezer causing the air not to circulate.

    Thanks for your replies.

What is the best way to get it sorted ? Will i need to get someone out to take a look and if so what sort of engineer is best so i dont get ripped off, is it best to avoid Currys / Comet type businesses ?

    Kind regards.
