ParticipantHello
Firstly, I would like to congratulate the operators and moderators of this forum. I am a new member, and I have been very impressed with the information and general helpfulness of all involved. Well Done.
To business: My Samsung SR-S2028CVW dual sided, american style, fridge/freezer was purchased about three years ago, and up till now it has been great and has not missed a beat.
At the weekend, I noticed water around the bottom, on the floor, and deduced that the freezer temperature was not very low. The ice machine was ejecting water as it had not had enough time to freeze. Upon examination of the contents of the freezer, I found that whilst it was all frozen, it was only just frozen.
The digital temperature on the outside was reading -20 for the freezer and 3 for the fridge, as usual. I upped the setting of the freezer to -25 and the digital read out gradually went up to -25 over the course of about an hour, as you would expect. The interior temperature was definitely not -25 however.
From time to time the interior temperature get good and low, and seems correct, but it is inconsistent.
I have done the diagnostic test, holding the two top buttons down. All the lights flash twice then the screen is blank. It reverts back to the usual setting after a minute or so.
Please can someone suggest what might be wrong, and what the best course of action may be. I am capable with electronics, test meters etc, and I would imagine that I could replace most parts if pointed in the right direction.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi
If the display is not showing a fault is could be a system failure or a faulty sensor.it would be better to have an engineer visit for this one as its not concurrant with a normal fault.

Thanks Brian, though this is not the best news.
Since the problems first started, I have been monitoring the unit a bit more carefully.
The fridge freezer chills well, but the temperatures are clearly fluctuating a lot. It seems that the unit gets down to the correct temperature (a deep freeze), but does not start chilling again until the temperature has risen way above what it is set to. It appears that the thermostat (or modern equivalent) is not switching the chiller on at the correct level to maintain a steady level.
The fridge appears to show the same symptons.Does this change your prognosis?
If not, I will get an engineer out.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Micheal
It may be that you have a faulty defrost sensor but cannot confirm this so I would advise an engineer visit.

Hello Bryan
Thanks again for your help.
Having read some other threads, I unplugged the unit and plugged it straight back in again. The fridge/freezer immediately started chilling and the display showed the current temps (-5, and 8), instead of what the unit is set to (-25 and 3), which is what it had been displaying prior to unplugging.
Does this sound more like the defrost sensor?
I had also read in other threads that a poorly functioning defrost sensor does not always show an error on the diagnostic test using the top two buttons of the display pannel.
Best wishes.
Michael

Hi
The problem does lie within the derost area,It could be the sensor,If you want to try that first then it can be ordered on line.

Thanks Bryan
I will order one and go from there.
Fingers crossed.

Michael… sounds like yours is doing exactly the same as mine!

Hi Michael & Steve,
I also am having identical problems with my Samsung SR-S2028CVW which is about three years old (the freezer is empty at the moment and so I am not worrying about food spoilage). It seems as though there is some component failure which is consistent amongst a lot of these units after about 3 years. If anyone finds a solution then I would be grateful if they could let everyone know.
One other point I could add is that when the freezer is going into defrost (seems to happen at least every day) I notice that the fridge, although still cold, does suffer from condensation on the glass trays. This disappears when the freezer is freezing properly.
Any tried & tested solutions?Cliff

Your problem sounds identicle to mine.
I am off on holiday this evening, and I am going to completely defrost the freezer and fridge for one week with the doors open to melt any ice that may have built up in the system.
I am also going to install a new defrost sensor (about £13) when I put it back into action.
N.B. As a quick fix I am turning the fridge off and then on at the mains. This seems to reset the temperature sensors, and the chiller starts.
I will let you know how I get on.July 11, 2007 at 5:25 pm #217767michaeljamesrutherford

Well I have returned from a wet holiday in Anglesey.
The fridge freezer was thoroughly defrosted over ten days, and I have installed a new sensor in the freezer…… and nothing has changed.
The unit gets down to the correct temperatures on both the fridge and freezer sides, but it is erratic about switching the coolers back on in order to sustain the required pemperatures. Sometimes I hear it switching on and sometimes I come down in the morning to find the temperatures way too high.I am not massiveley surprised that replacing a single sensor did not work – afterall both sides were not performing.
What to replace next?
Shall I try and contact Currys? Even though the unit is 3 years old, I am aware that these Samsungs have a design fault, and therefore were never fit for sale. Should/could Currys help out?

Hi Mike
the fault i would still say is within the defrost system of either the fridge or the freezer.
This is not a desgin fault as electrical items can fail at any time a new cooker element can fail same day you fit it.Sorry to say but you will fall into the situation that you will replace parts that havent failed and end up paying more for the repair than if you got an experienced engineer in to repair.
But if you wish to carry on replacing and taking pot luck then we can only help so far.

Hi Bryan
Thanks for the reply.
One last try – I am going to swap the old freezer sensor which I replaced and removed, with the old(existing) fridge sensor which I did not replace.
Unless a miracle happens, I will call out one of your approved engineers as per your original suggestion.
Thanks for all your help.
I hope that you do not mind helping people who would rather have a go at saving some costs (it has only cost me £15 so far).
Best wishes.

Well I thought that I had cracked it when I changed the sensor in the fridge section. The unit seemed to work well for 48 hours, but now is as bad as ever. I crossed all my fingers, touched wood and everything.
I have organised for an engineer to come out on Thursday. I will let you know of the progress.
I have just seen a thread on this website back in april, which seems identical to mine. See: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … lt&popup=1
The owner replaced the sensors AND the heater, maybe I jumped the gun by getting an engineer in , but I am sure that I will be in good hands.

Phew…I thought I was the only one!!!
Sounds like your problem is identical to what I am seeing.
Can somebody advise an update on solutions. Did replacing the defrost sensor work? Or does the heater need replacing as well? Thanks
