Samsung SRS2026cvw – freezer defrosting

Hi

We moved into our house a month ago and it came with a Samsung SRS2026CVW side by side fridge freezer. The problem seems to be that it keeps defrosting on its own – on the display panel the freezer temperature and the freezer door picture flash and this appears to mean the freezer is defrosting, although we can only tell once the food has thawed! This appears to take about 13-15 hours. Then the freezer starts back up again and everything refreezes. Obviously this is costing us a bit in ruined food. Is this a problem that can be fixed without an engineer or can someone give me an idea what the problem may be and how much it might cost, as having just moved we don’t have a lot of spare cash. The previous owners didn’t leave the instruction manual so we really don’t know how the fridge/freezer works or how old it is.

Hello Alison, sorry I cant actually help but I will lend a voice to your plea.

The problem with my sr-s2028cvw was just as mentioned in a thread from last summer. After 12 or 13 hours the thing wouldnt start up again unless I thurned it off and on at the plug. a new defrost sensor, thermal fuse and heater for the fridge seemed to be the answer. Dave from Whitegoods suggested it was very unlikely to be the defrost heater so I ordered and fitted the other two. Now I have the same symtems as you ; it runs ok for a few hours then the picture of the door flashes on the freezer side. Carrying out a Diagnostics test reveals no faults. I did try using the old sensor and fuse from the fridge side in the freezer but no change. Any ideas please folks?

I shall just correct my last post if I may, its not the door picture that flashes but the number -15 on the freezer door. That being the figure I had set it to.
