ParticipantHi,
I have a Samsung twin cool side by side fridge/freezer. Model is SRS584DP. This is an Australian model but it seems very similar to the RS21 model.
I have read the guide for defrost problems and upgrades on this site http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/downloads … ctions.pdf
I’m a refrigeration mechanic by trade but have been out of the trade for a few years and was not involved much with domestic refrigeration.
While I was working away on an overseas assignment, my partner arranged a service repair by a Samsung service agent and the (refrig side) defrost heater and the evap cover were replaced due to icing of the Evap coil. This worked and solved the problem for about 8 months. However after I returned the defrost problems reoccurred. After reading the aforementioned guide I found that the defrost sensor was the old type and had not been replaced by the repairer and that the thermal fuse was open circuit. Both heaters were OK.
I replaced both the defrost sensor and the defrost thermal sensor (new type) and the fridge operated correctly for another 4 months. Unfortunately I have now discovered a warm fridge with an iced up Evaporator and the thermal fuse is blown again.
Both heaters are reading specified resistance values and are OK.I can’t see a reason for the thermal fuse to blow.
Can anybody tell me how the defrost cycle starts and terminates? Is it started on a time value and terminated via the sensor?
I thought this would be the way it cycled and assumed the older type sensor was faulty causing a longer than necessary defrost cycle and thus the blown fuse. Now that I have the new black type sensor I’m wondering what else could be the cause for this failure.
I’m reluctant the just replace the thermal fuse again without finding the root cause.Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi
The fuse blows normally due to incorrect placement.
Send me a e-mail to samsung@ffrservices.co.uk and I will forward you the correct positioning for it.

Thanks Bryan!
The image confirms incorrect placement of the thermal fuse which should not be in contact with the heater element but rather on the rear and secured to the refrigerant pipe only.
I’m not to pleased with the technician who my partner paid $350 to repair the fridge to install the thermal fuse incorrectly….
This is a great forum!
