Did you read down the comments on it Martin?
I do wish people would read the news on the front page as this was on there quite some time ago.
Thus far the technology is not available for a nil detergent machine and I doubt it will be for at least 5-10 years hence as there’s just too many technological hoops to jump through. And, even when such technology does exist you still need additives of sorts to fragrance the clothing or most people would not accept it. What is also not realised by most people when they see “detergent free washer” is that to accomplish that there is an incredibly high amount of pre-treatment to garments before they even gett to the machine, which would be unacceptable in this country, probably in Western Europe, simply due to the cost and time in that alone.
Also the production costs have to be taken into account and therefore the retail, then work out whether the reduction of detergent is worth it in a trade off against cost.
I have read a lot on this subject of late and frankly, the nil detergent appliance, although they exist, do not exist it’s merely an exercise in marketing and lying at the moment.
Nirvana or the promised land, it ain’t.
This Samsung uses a chemical process with some sort of silver and platinum thing like a catylitic convertor from what I can remember of it to neutralise any bacteria in the water it’s effectivness is currently open to debate. As for reliability, well we all know what happens when they bring out some fancy new idea and, as Simon points out, it is an LG after all. 😉
Just as an aside, I did see one, complete with mad Korean writing on it but did not have the chance to get inside it sadly.

Silver/platinum thing like a catylitic convertor.
Its not radioactive by any chance? 😈
A bit of plutonium will kill of any germs and odours, probably customers too will be walking around glowing 💡
Food for thought
