Hi, I have a Samsung WF8500NHW washing machine for just over 2 years now. Lately I have been getting error code “5d”/”Sd” which pauses washing cycle for a while at various times.
What does it mean and how can I solve the issue? Read that it has something to do with “suds” and should use HE detergent. What are suds and what is HE detergent? HELP!!

The fault codes for that washing machine should be these:

I suspect that what you’ve read relates to over foaming which can fool the pressure sensor into thinking that the washing machine has fully drained, hence the reference to HE detergent which is a term normally reserved for the USA.

What HE means is, High Efficiency which is how front loading washing machines are referred to in the US as, simply put, they are hugely more efficient in water, energy and detergent use than the traditional top loading washing machines usually used Stateside.

Of course for a front loading washing machine you need a detergent that foams less and virtually all the commonly available detergents in Europe are designed for front loading machines and not top loaders.
