hi. ive got a samsung american style fridge freezer, an RS21DCSV ive never had any trouble with it in the last 3 years. but this morning, inexplicably, the water dispenser in the freezer door has stopped working. its the model that is plumbed into the mains with the ice/waster dispenser. theres still water to the freezer, and the filter cartridge is recent. the ice maker is still working and has water, so the problem seems to be the dispenser. when i press a glass against it, i can hear it click, but nothing is coming out. i can hear a very faint humming when the dispenser is pressed, making me think that a solenoid valve in there is sticking. before i go steaming in there. any tips on getting the thing apart. there are no obvious screws or fixings holding it in, so i assume its either clipped or glued in . anyone had this problem before. im loathe to take it to bits before ive an idea as to whether i can get parts for it, and before i know if i can take it apart without destroying anything.

    Hi

Water tank has frozen which can be caused by either the evaperator cover failure or a defrost system failure.

    Hi

That depends on how electrically compident you are .

25 years as a heating engineer, not being immodest but i’d like to think of myself as above average with regard to electrical competance, refrigeration and a/c is something im aiming to move in to in the next few years, but im only vaguely familiar with its working at the mo.
right ive removed the evaporator cover, defrosted the coil, there was a liberal amount of ice on it, but not enough to completely cover it. connections to the wiring on the coil were iced over too. water is now flowing once more, but my next trick is to keep it that way. fab forum by the way, amazing what info you can find online!!

    Hi

then the evaperator cover which you took off will need to be changed, either available from myself r600a@hotmail.com or from the on line shop.

ok, then. whats the problem with the cover ? it had ice on the outside of it, where the water tank sits, but, and forgive my ignorance of the refrigeration world here, how would that make the coil ice up? i would have thought that the defrost sensor being encased in ice was more indicative of an electrical problem with that part preventing the coil from defrosting itself, any chance you could give me an idiots guide as to why these parts fail and how theyre tested to prove failure? just so i can get a handle on how it all works.
on a slightly disconnected note. ive always liked my “big fridge” and have never heard of them being prone to any major faults. but reading through the first 10 or 15 pages of posts here, it seems that every other samsung has fallen over at some time or other. perhaps thats why it was cheap!!!!!!! 😀

    Hi

You will find a lot of posts for the samsung fridge freezers on this site,Not due to the failure rate but due to a lot of engineers lack of knowledge on these appliances,Also that there is a lot of DIYers that would try to fix themselves,Normally with a hit and miss approach changing parts that arent needed.Even they wont always take advise.

you have said that the evaperator didnt have much frost on it which should point to that it has carried out a defrost not long ago.

If the evaperator was fully frosted/iced up then that would point to a defrost error.

cheers bryan. ive got it ll back together now, and im going to run it overnight and take another look at it. ive been trawling the old posts and there does seem to be a very common thread through them all!!
going to let it freeze again and then with the info youve given me test the defrost sensor. whatever parts i need i will buy from you. thanks for the help. john

Re: samsung water dispenser – doesnt!!!!

right then, i defrosted the fridge on sunday, and all was fine again. i knew it would freeze the water tank again, but i wasnt sure how long it would last. however, this morning, friday, i found it had frozen again. on removing the cover, the coil was covered in ice to such a degree that there would have been little chance of air being able to pass over it when the fan was running. it was almost completely solid, especially the pipework to the top l/h side which was completely encased in ice, as the pics show.
though the icing was worse than it actually looks on the pics,

there was very little ice on the outside of the evaporator cover just a light icing over about 3 or 4 square inches near the middle. and the fan was running ok.
any ideas? would be appreciated im wondering how the cover would affect this, as even with a new cover it is still going to ice up the coil.

oh, and one final point, on switching the power baack on before re fitting the light assembly in the fridge, a single segment of the fridge temp led display was ilumingated. it was the r/h side upper half of the led nearest the fridge door. what does that indicate?

ok, i’ll try for the defrost heater first, if i need the cover, i’ll get it later from you as its not exactly cheap!!(well its all relative but you know what i mean) so how do i pay you? you want me to send a cheque? paypal or a debit card payment? let me know and i will get the money to you, and what about p+p?
thanks for your help over this bryan.

Re: samsung water dispenser – doesnt!!!!

I am having the same problem with the water tank freezing up. I took the fridge to bits three weeks ago and cleaned the ice from the evaporator cover and made sure water was running through ok, now it has iced up again 🙁 .

You mentioned a defrost sensor: where do I find this and how do I test it.

Re: samsung water dispenser – doesnt!!!!

    Hi.

It appears I am having the same problem:

    Water stopped dispensing
Lower Part of Fridge cooler than top- small amount of ice behind salad drawer.
Fridge temp display showing 13 deg.

So should I start with the evaporator cover?

I’m pretty competent when it comes to fixing electrical type things, but could someone point me to whereabouts it is in the fridge.

    Your help is most appreciated!

    Stu
