Participant12 year old washing machine has developed a clunk accompanied by lateral movement during spin cycle when going onto high speed – 2 minutes on countdown.. Stopped the cycle and had a pull/push. Whole drum/tub moves around 25 mm when pushed hard axially. Around 10mm sideways movement at front edge of drum. No sign of any water leakage.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Moderatornot sure what you mean by axially
butany movement of that magnitude is too much. a few mill back and forward is ok
if its up and down when you push on it its only one of 2 things.
bearing gone in which case it will make one hell of a racket or spider which means one of the legs of the 3 legged spider has snappedDave

ParticipantThanks for the reply Dave.
Axially – along the axis of rotation, so pushing straight onto the centre of the back of the drum,. WIth the lid off, it looks like all the movement is the whole drum/tub assembly. There’s not a lot of up/down movement.
I’ve had a look inside and the only thing I can see that looks suspicious is the shock absorbers.
There’s a bit of red grease about that doesn’t look right, though this is the first time I’ve seen this type of shock absorber, so not sure what to expect. Our last washing machine was a mid 80s Servis, and the shocks in it were pukka hydraulic units.

Moderatorare you talking about just the inner drum but the outer drum stays still
or both drum which would be quite normal

ParticipantYes. Inner and outer seem to be moving together, so hopefully that rules out bearings and/or spider.

Moderatorthats normal then
make sure the shock absorbers are ok as the clunk may be a side to side movement
also check all counterbalance weights are secure

ParticipantI’ll order a pair of shocks and hopefully that’ll do the trick. The red grease on the surface probably tells all.
Any recommendations for a supplier/brand? There seems to be a huge number of different makes and I’ve no experience of these things so would appreciate any guidance you can offer.

Moderatoras far as i can see the part no should be
DC66-00343H

ParticipantPretty sure that’s the number I found.
The problem I’m having is deciding on which supplier to go with as there are so many offering simuilar shocks – I’d assume all sourced from China.
Any pointers as to who’s reliable offering decent quality?

Moderatordid you ask?
the website does not have direct connection to samsung. someone has to look up the model to get part no and add it web listings. this means one of those may fit but its not been updated
