ParticipantHi all
Not my week this week
Has anyone had any problems with the motors on these machines?
I got a call to repair this machine because it wouldn’t turn on and found that the main PCB was dead, I didn’t find any other faults with the machine so purchased a new PCB from ASWO (I got them to confirm the correct part no), I fitted the board a couple of weeks ago and the machine has done about 8 washes since then before failing again in the same manner.I have taken the new board out of the machine and could see a small burnt out resistor, I couldn’t work out if it was for the power supply section or not so have brought the board home, I have now had a closer look at the old PCB (it was still in my junk pile) and could see the same resistor look burnt, I decided to dig the origanol board out of the potting compound and dissassemble it to find out what the resistor is connected to and in doing so found that the motor drive IC (under the heatsink) is cooked, I am suspecting that it may be the same on the new module.
When I tested the motor connection (From the module end of the harness) I got 4.7 Ohms between any pair, I need to go back and recheck the wiring more carefully to see if it shorts to the casing intermittently but was wondering if anyone had had problems with the mottors breaking down under load etc.
Thank you
Jem

Moderatordoes sound more like a wiring fault but did you do a motor insulation test ?

ParticipantI know that I tested the machine as a whole but don’t remeber if I did a specific one on the motor as i didn’t suspect the motor till after I got home.

Moderatorit is an odd one as most 3 phase motors are very reliable
not a great fan of Samsung, not only is there zero tech backup but potting the board means a lot of simple faults arn’t

ParticipantJust to finish this one, I went back and went through the whole machine including the motor but could not find any problems so we came to the conclusion that the motor must be failing under load but we will never know for sure as the customer has decided to scrap the machine rather than keep throwing money at it.
