ParticipantHi guys,
our fan oven has stopped heating and I’m pretty sure it’s the element that’s at fault.
What I need to know is which element do I choose, as there appear to be a few that will fit.
The original is a 2.3 kw, but I have seen replacements of 1.8, 2, 2.2 etc.
Do I have to fit one at the original rating, or could a lower rating be used safely.
I wondered if a lower rated one might last longer, or would it be overloaded. Many thanks
Ade

You could use an Element of a slightly lower rating & it won’t get overloaded. The problem you will notice is that your oven will take longer to cook your food & you will have to adjust cooking times accordingly.
Have you actually tested the Element for continuity with a Multimeter or Megger? We allways advise doing this before buying a replacement as there are several possible causes of no heat in an oven.February 26, 2011 at 11:10 am #345509spadders
ParticipantHi,
I’ve removed the element,
It has gone, so should be a simple replacement.
I tested the wrong part at first, I removed the back of the oven and saw 2 prongs sticking out of the back at the top and assumed that was the element, but thought I’d better double check and noticed when I looked from the inside that the element sits lower down.Cheers

ParticipantHi,
I replaced the element, and now our cooker cooks,HOWEVER,
a word of warning to anybody doing this job!
I had to remove the cover on the back because the wires pulled through after I removed the broken element, I pushed the wires back through to the oven no problem, but as I pulled my hand out I brushed the edge of the casing and cut my knuckle down to the bone.
The sides of the casing and covers are like razor blades.
Please be aware of this when removing any covers, or putting your hands in the casing.
This may be unique to Sarena, but somehow I doubt it. If it saves anybody else from gashing their hands open then it was well worth mentioning.Thank you Specialist01269 for your help.
Cheers guys, catch you next time

Hi Ade: I’m glad you got your problem sorted & thank you for letting me know, it’s nice to get feedback from members we help.
Sorry to hear about your hand mate, hope it heals ok & quickly. Unfortunately your right many, many appliances nowadays have unfinished or badly finished edges that are Razor sharp. Only a short while ago 1 of our colleagues in the trade sliced his hand to the bone on a machine, so badly in fact that he may never be able to work again.
