ParticipantHi everybody.
Had a strange call from a no name company wanting to sell me advertising in a local street magazine this morning.
All seemed ok,they said they got my name from Trading Standards Shipshape contractors list which they probably did and did I want four half page insertions over 12 months for £149.00 plus vat.
Sounded good or maybe too good as free artwork was included. I was told a company rep would be in touch and within minutes she was on the phone reading from a well prepared script telling me I was agreeing to advertise with them and which card would I be using to pay.
No card without seeing some proofs I replied. I was then told I would be sent a invoice to be paid within 14 days along with proofs etc etc and kept emphasising I was in a contract.I was also told artwork would be e-mailed to me within a hour for my approval…I`m still waiting for it.
Maybe it will fall on the doormat tomorrow all above board and I will feel a pratt but something does`nt feel right to me.I`m a nightmare to deal with over advertising( ask Yellow Pages) but I`m cute enough to smell a rat and I know Nobody gives card details over the phone unless your a 1000{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure and then probably not.
Beware guys and stay alert.
Chris.

Scam or not I wouldn’t get involved .
There isn’t many a day that goes by whithout someone trying to sell me advertising of some sort, and its usually when i’ve got my head under a machine. grrrrrr
I would never buy advertising of a cold caller .I target my budget at where I think its effective ,not where they tell me.April 21, 2011 at 12:03 am #349809leavemetogetonwithit

This year alone I’ve had companies phoning me “because they’ve seen my company listed on Trading Standards web site!” to advertise in….
“Police & Emergency Services Booklet delivered to 35,000 homes in your area”
“Berkshire Health Authority recommended services guide book”
“Full years advert placed in local Post Offices and the first 3 months are FREE!”
“Local Town Guide £375 for 2″ block advert (£420 full colour -free artwork) for 3 months advertising….”
….AD INFINITUM…….. 😥

Shameful Martin that you refuse to support such wonderful institutions. 😛

Like Martin, I to get a call once or twice a year from a guy by the name of Lloyd calling on behalf of the local police magazine. As soon as I ask for a copy of the magazine or sample of the advertising he becomes hostile then hangs up.
Na keep yer money in yer pocket Chris.
