2 days ago the outside fridge didn’t work. I switched it off did my best to clean the back and check connections. The fridge worked again (though it froze everything – i guess because the setting was too high) so i turned it down, and the next morning I noticed the freezer wasn’t working.

I started my process again and it seems the freezer is now working again, but now I am back to the fridge not working!
So I have a fridge and a freezer that are capable of working, and indeed yesterday I witness the two compressors being warm and making on noises implying they still both work.
But today only one is working (both are now silent though if I click superfreeze one will start making its on noise)

    Things I have noticed:
1.) the fridge thermometer is off. It has said -35°C when the fridge isn’t cold at all. It has only recently gone to -25°C today and the cup of water I have been checking has stayed the same 17°Cish throughout.

2.) our other indoor fridge wasn’t that cold. things ranged from 11°C to 15°C°. We purchased a new fridge yesterday and it is reading 13-16°C today.
It is warmer than usual but I am in England so I wouldn’t expect a fridge to struggle so much!

3.) the back of the fridge isn’t in great shape from being super old and kept in an outside shed.

the fridge is a Scandinova ff 6-9236/ w

Anyone have any idea how I can go about trying to get it functional?

update: I changed round the start relays. The fridge compressor now works and the one for the freezer is now the inactive one. The fridge seems to be getting way too cold regardless of being on the lowest setting and the thermostat saying -35. And the freezer is now off so I am back to where I was before. I am stumped regarding what is occurring with it. If it is an issue with one of the start relays, why is the fridge getting too cold? why is the thermometer saying -35 regardless of the temperature being between 0-17? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This older version of fridge freezer has two compressors, so there should be two thermostats, one for each compartment.
The temperature display is an analogue type and often fails to show correct temperature reading, which on this unit is for the freezer temperature.
I would be looking at a faulty thermostat for the fridge section for the issues you have.
