ParticipantHi,
I’ve just found this website and would like to ask for some help with my fridge.I have a Scandinova LFA 391W tall fridge.
Inside the details are:
Temp class N
Refrig R600a 0.029Kg
KS384 86797
O-S384.ES8-A1010150I have had the fridge just over a year, so no warranty.
The mains on light (green LED), and the interior light all work but the inside of the fridge is at room temperature.
The motor is very hot, to hot to touch when left on.The motor seems to be working, when I touch it I can feel it vibrating very slightly but the fridge does not make the same noise as it used to when running.
Motor details
TLX5.7KK3 Danfoss?
R600a
4647When scanning trough the forums a numbr of Scandinova friges are mentioned and they all seem to point to the thermostat, could this be the same fault on my fridge?
Thanks for any help

Hi
From what you have told us it is likely to be one of the following-
a. short of refrigerant
b. a defective compressor
As its a tall fridge it is worth you contacting a trade member of this forum via repairs@ section. Best of luck.

ParticipantThanks for the help.
I’ve tried the repairs@ but Scandinova is not listed in the manufactures drop down menu so I can not proceed.
Could they be referred to under a different name?
Thanks again.

ParticipantThanks for the help.
An engineer arrived took a look, hit the compressor with a hammer a few times?? and declared it dead.
£60.00 for that, now I have to find a new compressor and someone who wil fix it for under £150.00…March 23, 2005 at 6:32 pm #129362kwatt

How far out of warranty is it?
IIRC Scandanova is a brand name for Comet and they may make some concession towards the repair given that you should expect a compressor to last longer than that. Also, I’m informed, that Danfoss had a problem with these compressors in that they died prematurely so it may be a known issue to them.
Worth a call.

In defence of the “engineer hitting it with a hammer” it’s not an uncommon practice to be honest as sometimes if you’re lucky it may release a jammed valve saving the customer the cost of a new compressor.
It rarely works but it’s worth a shot on newish models 😉

ParticipantI had a second opinion and this enginneer turned the fridge on and realised the compressor was not working so tested the gas pressure.
No gas pressure, so he pressurised the system and noticed a huge leak and suggested that the compressor has died due to a gas leak.
The leak is inaccessible and he advised a new fridge.I have contacted comet again as I am not happy with the fridge dying after a few months out of warranty.
Comet have suggested they will pay for part of any repair work needed to the fridge.
Thanks again for all your help

ParticipantJust a footnote to this thread:
I contacted Trading Standards who suggested Comet are still liable for the appliance as it is only 15months old, an appliance of this nature should be expected to work for at least 3 years.I then went back to Comet and complained who have now offered a new fridge of the same value, the original fridge model is no longer sold by Comet.
Comet had two fridges at around the same sort of price I originally paid, a Scandinova and a Hotpoint.
I ordered the Hotpoint which should arrive tomorrow.
Thanks again for the help,
