    Hai…

My Scandinova frost free fridge freezer working all right but leaking water to floor from a copper pipe attached to compresser. I can see frost around this copper tube and it time to time melt down and the carpets are getting really wet. Anyone have any idea what is causing the frost around this copper pipe? Freezer type-FF5357C Searial No. 44312549. Thank you

Re: Scandinova frost free freezer leaking from back to floor

The frost you see is caused by Liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor. This is very bad. Have you had this regassed recently?

The boil off of refrigerant into liquid should at all times be contained within the cabinet, as the liquid absorbs heat from within the cabinet it warms up and becomes a gas again (boyles law), return pipes should not therefore freeze over.

The liquid return to the compressor will increase the oil/gas mix and you’ll be lucky to rescue this if R134a refrigerant.

You need a system engineer to this, quick if you are to salvage it.

This is a simple problem and you don’t need to worry as Kevin mentioned. The copper pipe you have mentioned is the one freezing the freezer inside. This pipe will get very cold when the compressor start. You will see a copper cable solder to this copper pipe to warm the pipe to avoid getting frozen. Check this cable, I believe this soldering must have come off. If it is the case don’t bother to solder it again but use another copper wire to attach along the copper pipe this will solve the problem.

With no disrespect to the poster, this does not make any sense at all. Please follow kheath’s advice and get some professional help – this is almost certainly a system fault and is NOT solvable without specialist diagnostic and repair equipment.

This is a great example of why UKW exists…..

There’s advice and rubbish, I will let the reader decide.

Re: Scandinova frost free freezer leaking from back to floor

Thank you for all of your support. I have tried what Sanj said and it is not freezing around the pipe any longer.

I have also noticed a black rubber tube around this pipe came off from the original place. There was also some sticky stuff, looks like sealed to avoid getting moisture in. I have re sealed this area and place the black tube back. I put some copper wire around the pipe as Sanj said, I could see the frost around the pipe vanishing straight away. My sincere thanks to everyone and special thanks to Sanj for saving me money.

    Hi Hari

I would carefully consider penguin and kheath’s advice on this as they have given you some excellent advice and they know what they are talking about.

I have worked on several scandinova freezers and the copper pipe “fix” is whats known in the trade as a recall waiting to happen!

The “sticky stuff you resealed is insulating putty – but why did it need to be resealed???? this stuff just doesn’t fall off by itself

A call out from an engineer is cheaper than a new freezer.

    Thank you Clyde.

I am keep monitoring the situation so far no problem, but if I see any further symptom I will contact an engineer without further delay.

I do value your opinions. Thank you
