    I have a Scandinova frost-free upright freezer model UFF 238W. It is 18 months old without a warranty. It is running more noisily by the day, but otherwise ok. If I switch off at the mains there is a clapping noise and a bit of graunching as the faulty component stops. Is this likely to be the compressor or the fan? It has been suggested to me elsewhere that the compressor is not replaceable on this model.

    Normaly ice builds up around evaporator fans, switch off and defrost for a good 24-36 hours with door left open(in warm enviroment) should sort it out.

    Answer spot on. Job done. Used a hair dryer through slot at bottom to speed things up. Hope not to have caused any damage. Thanks for your help. 😀
