Some help will be much appreciated.

I have two freestanding Scandinova fridge freezers the oldest was bought at least 22 years ago and still going strong – but starting to look a bit ratty. The other only about 15 years old … excellent, trouble free service but a bit noisy!

The old one is installed behind two doors which match others in the kitchen with a DIY link to the appliance doors. So the replacement needs to be a pretty good dimensional match to the existing one.

Having carefully read how hard it is know who makes what, where, and the build quality standards – I was alarmed to read here that Scandinova is linked to Comet. So a current replacement Scandinova might be bad news. Both of these were made in Denmark I believe. Google found this which reveals the Middle Eastern group Better Life owns both Scandinova and Zanussi (which UKW’s Dave Conway has recommended) http://www.ameinfo.com/37347.html So maybe Scandinova is still OK?

I’ve found a used Scandinova FF7- 6543 with similar dims to mine … but 300 notes for an FF between two and four years old is a bit strong. And if it dates back to the Comet era could be a turkey.

So back to the drawing board. I could use a helping hand finding a well made FF with the bottom freezer door top up to 970mm from floor level – the top (fridge) door bottom 975mm up to a max door height of 850mm/1825mm from floor level. Width and depth 600mm is fine. Any projecting FF door handles would be removed.

Blocks under levelling feet to raise the unit a little if necessary is no problem.

So there it is folks. Any miracle worker out there able to assist? 😀

    Cheers, Brian

    Hi Brian

To replace the old, quality made Scandinova you will need to look at the premium refrigeration brands like Bosch, Liebherr and Miele to get anywhere near the same build.

All three have comprehensive websites however they don`t give the door split measurements, so you are going to have to do a bit of pavement bashing armed with your trusty tape measure I`m afraid.

In the meantime a good read here should get you started.

    HTH 🙂

Many thanks Don – that puts me on the right track.

It was more luck than judgement that the old Scandinovas were chosen. Good to have it confirmed that it’s time to move on!

My tape measure is armed and ready 🙂

    All the best, Brian

The old Scandinovas were built by Vestfrost in Denmark for Comet.
