Help. My Scandinova upright freezer is breaking down as I speak. The door was left open for about 2 hours yesterday and the alarm came on. After closing the door the temperature is still going down. It’s stuffed full of food and I’ve lost the manual. There’s power – anyone know what I should do?

Yes…unfortunately you will have to find another home for the frozen food until the problem is rectified. The good news is in the meantime the temp will probably settle about -10 to -12c which although not deep frozen is equivalent to about a two star freezer which allows storage for up to three months.

The problem will be the cooling plate has choked with ice after the door was left open for such a period, and now needs manually defrosting. This can be done by unplugging the appliance for 48 hours with the door left open.

Be aware that some defrost water may run onto the floor both behind and infront of the machine so you can take steps to prevent floor damage. :lesson:

Thank you very much. Great advice and will now redistribute food amongst neighbours and defrost manually. Lesson learnt – always ensure door closed – much less costly!
