ParticipantHi,
I have a built in schreiber fridge in my kitchen. The bottom hinge of the door has completely sheared in half and the thermostat is no longer working. Could someone let me know if it is possible to purchase a new fridge or a reconditioned one and what the costs involved might be?
thanks

It may be worth considering a repair, the hinges are only about £17 and the thermostat about £15.
What’s actually wrong with the thermostat helens ?

Hi Dave,
basically the fridge is hot inside instead of cold.
I had an engineer come out this morning to have a look at it and he said the thermostat had ‘gone’! He wants to charge me £150 for the privilege of changing it and a further £70 for a new hinge! So, I thought I’d have a look around and came across this website. Are both things easy to fix or does it need an engineer?
Because he was quoting me so much I figured it might be worth just getting a replacement! He also said there might be a problem with trying to fix a new hinge due to lack of space for the screws!helen

I’m afraid to say you were nearly the victim of a total rip-off 🙁
Try Repairs@ for a reputable engineer 😀
If you get stuck for the spares, let me know. The hinge is fairly straighforward but the thermostat not so easy. Please power off :zap: if you decide to have a look yourself.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
I’ve tried logging onto the repairs link that you sent through to me but there appears to be no engineers in the Bath area and also Schrieber don’t appear to be listed under manufacturers. How much would it cost me and how long would it take to get the spare parts sent through?
thanks

The hinge i have but the thermostat would be 3-5 days normally. Those prices are pretty accurate, add £3.95 carriage.
If you email spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk if you would like to order.
If you still need an engineer, let me have the first part of your postcode (BA?? I guess) and I’ll check another list I have.
Dave.

Morning,
my postcode is ba2 4ry.
Be great if you could let me know if there are any engineers in the area.
Also investigated the door/hinge a bit last night but I need to take it off the front to make sure that I am ordering the right part.
If there are no engineers in the area is there anywhere I can get full instructions on how to change the thermostat?Helen

Try these guys:
J T Appliance Servicing 01764 411400
I would let them come and have a look first and advise before ordering any spares.
