    Hi,

I am having some problems with my fridge light and wonder if someone might be able to point me in the right direction?

Recently my freezer door came off (one of the plastic brackets snapped) and consequently the temperature inside the fridge went a bit erratic. Before I could get a spare door hinge, water started to develop around the fridge light until one day it just wouldn’t turn on when the door was open.

I assumed the fridge bulb had been damaged by this water or something so I went away and bought a brand new bulb. The light was fine again but then deciding to stop working a day later!

I am convinced it has something to do with this little blue component which is wired into the bulb circuit and has the following markings on it ‘VDE MO3 70.07’. It looks like a little capacitor or something. It sits beside the bulb on the fridge light holder… Could this be the problem? If so where can I pick up a new one to try and swap it?

    Many thanks,

    Graeme

Re: Schreiber APM6121 Fridge Light Fault.

Looks like a bulb holder assembly – unfortunately there are early and late versions.

    P/no 398054901 – up to 9.12.02
    P/no 398190601 – from 10.12.02

spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will be able to get you whichever one you require.

    Thanks for replying Penguin45,

When you say bulb holder assembly do you mean the little plastic bulb holder that the bulb screws into with two metal connectors at the other end? Can water effect this badly?

I had my multi meter connected up to the wires which attach to the bulb holder and I was reading a small voltage going through but certainly not enough to power a 15w bulb… this is why I’m thinking it might have something to do with this blue component (faulty capacitor?) which is in circuit… When I push the door switch down the voltage drops to zero and then when I let it go it moves back up to about 0.2v… it’s like the voltage is being stopped by this blue component….

I think I’m going mad….arrrgh! I’ve gotta remember it’s just a fridge light but it’s really annoying me now. I just want it to work! hehe

Aha – might have the answer

    Thermal lamp protection 538003300 (early)
    Thermal lamp protection 538013000 (late)

    Dates as above.

Re: Schreiber APM6121 Fridge Light Fault.

Just wanted to post a quick reply to say that I finally have the light working again!

You’re right Pengiun… the blue component seems to be a thermal protector.

I think the water may have seeped into this component and then frozen because as soon as I took a hairdryer to it the bulb started to work again!

Use a hairdryer… a little tip for anyone is a similar situation!
