A few months ago I was asked to install an immersion heater timer. I got one from Screwfix and fitted it. The timer has now gone wrong so I have temporarilly bypassed it but left it in place. I rang Screwfix, who said they would send out a new timer and collect the faulty one. I asked for them to not collect the old one immediately so I could just make one visit to the customer and swap the units over. They rang back a few minutes later to say the timer is out of stock so do I want to choose a different one or get a cash refund. I replied that there was no great urgency, just send the timer when it is back in stock. Apparently this can’t be done as they have no back-order system in place 😯 . I now have to try to get the timer elsewhere, fit it then arrange for collection of the faulty one. No doubt the replacement unit will be dearer than the Screwfix one but I can’t very well charge this difference to the customer 🙁

    Re: Screwfix

    Phidom,
Was the timer a Horstman Quarts Eco 7 timer? If so there is a microtemp between one of the switched supplys which can fail I cant remember the rating but it can be changed. Might be easier than swapping out the timer.
P.s do you also change imersion heaters?

    Re: Screwfix

No, it’s just an add on timer using full rate electricity. I went in Holland House this morning and picked up something similar but not identical, for about the same price as the Screwfix one. I don’t like the sort with a 13 amp socket as the plug can get hot when working flat out with a 3 KW immersion.
