ParticipantI don’t know about everybody else, but I find the search facility very frustrating at times, especially when looking up error codes or specific makes or company names. The fact is that error codes are 3 characters long, and so are some makes (e.g AEG) and companies (e.g. QER, or the defunct EMW), and not allowing searches on these makes my life difficult.
Thoughts anyone?Lucie

KeymasterSadly searches with three or less characters are nigh impossible to deal with.

ParticipantThe thing is, the search is also case insensitive. Would making it case sensitive make those 3 letter searches easier, especially when they are full words?

KeymasterOn a large search engine with a lot of power, like Google, you can do it and filter out all the short stuff that isn’t wanted. On a small site-only search run on your own server, you don’t have anything like the power, and searching down to that level is too resource-hungry, so it’s not really viable. And, you get a lot of iffy results.
So the best thing to do is avoid it if at alll possible and a lot of sites built on a pre-defined platform, such as this, you don’t even get the option as it was never built to deal with that sort of a search.

ParticipantI prefer to look up if a piece of info has already been provided before creating a new topic, as it seemed inefficient to keep asking the same questions and people having to give the same answers.
This time I was trying to find out info about QER.
That said, you have to admit it’s really quite unfortunate in this field of work not to be able to look up topics where a certain error code (or whatever it is that is invariably 3 letters long) is mentioned… but I get why now.April 29, 2025 at 10:19 pm #492725kwatt
KeymasterAt times that restriction, for us at least, is infuriating but it is what it is sadly.

Moderatorbeacause of the restrictions you have to think out of the box a bit
think about what else you can search for that will bring up similar resultsDave

ParticipantYeah I do that, it’s totally draining and inefficient, hence my frustration!!

KeymasterMost of the fault codes, where I’ve found them at least, are in that section of the site which is searchable using Google.

ParticipantGo to Google, in the search box type:
site:https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk whatyouwanttosearchfor
eg:
site:https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk QERYou can use Google to do a search like this to limit results only to that site.
