ParticipantHi,
I’m looking to buy our first fridge/freezer and washing machine, as we are moving into accommodation without either. Price wise, I’m able to spend up to £300 for both, so seems will need to get them used.
I’ve found this advert http://bristol.gumtree.com/bristol/90/46778890.html selling a Baumatic Fridge/freezer and washing machine. The seller has said he is willing to sell for £300.
The fridge/freezer is the right capacity for me, so that’s good and the washing machine will work well too.
What I’d like some advice on: is this a good deal?! If not, any recommendations for where to get used appliances?
Thanks!

Hi
Buying second hand appliances is always a risky business as they are sold as seen. If you happen to know a friendly engineer who would give them a once over for you on a chargeable basis it could save you a problem later on. As far as price is concerned I always say that items like these are only worth what someone is prepared to pay, so haggle some more 😉 to get a better deal.
Check out your local retailers for second hand machines, buying from a reputable dealer will give you peace of mind and they will come with some sort of guarantee.

I think that baumatic washer was a vestelle made machine which have tended to be reasonable reliable for other branded washers. only ever sold 3 baumatics that came out of that factory (1000 spin/5kg load) and havent been contacted about them failing…yet

In some ways, it was an unfortunate machine – stainless outer tank with a crosspiece bearing carrier should have made for a decent appliance, but the pcb, motor and bearing quality were disappointing. It was an Indesit clone mechanically, but poorly done.
