ParticipantHi there,
I need advice as to what washing machine to buy.
We’re a family of 5- 2 adults, 3 children and do quite a lot of laundry- probably 8 loads per week or so.
From all my reading on this forum, I understand I’m best off buying a heavy duty machine.
I don’t necessarily need a big drum size as I don’t do such big washes- rather several different types of loads- cottons 60s, cotton 40s, delicates, etc.
I am looking for something that washes well. This is very important to me as my current machine (Zanussi) doesn’t wash particularly well.
I’m thinking along the lines of Bosch or Miele but this is where I need help.
Are these considered “heavy duty”, can they withstand lots of washing every week.
If not, could you recommend something that fits my criteria?Regarding budget, I need something that fits my criteria for a realistic price- whatever that might be.
Thank you and looking forward to hearing your responses.
Regards!

ParticipantGenerally 8 washes per week, sometimes up to 10.
£1000 would be the max.
Thank you.September 11, 2020 at 6:55 am #471863don
Moderator10 washes per week is reckoned to be 3 times the average use. The way I see this one would be you either buy a mid range Bosch for example and be prepared to replace it probably every four or five years or go with a Miele mid range at around £700 to £800 mark with a reasonable promotion guarantee ( five years if you can) and go from there.
The other option would be to go for budget Beko, I am not a fan of this way as it’s not good for the environment.

ParticipantHi,
Thanks so much for your responses Don.
Beko is out of question, I am not convinced they wash that well and like I said originally, this is very important to me.
I do think I will go with a Bosch, simply because Miele can tell how many washes you have done and i’m nervous that if something does go wrong it might be that the amount of washes that i’ve done mean that the machine has already done its ten years of use or whatever. So regarding Bosch, where do I start?
I’ve looked on AO and John Lewis, there seem to be many different models available. Does mid range mean Serie 4 and Serie 6?
How do I know which ones are good? Are they all around the same good and it’s much of a muchness?
Would appreciate any advice with this regard.Thank you!

ModeratorSeries 4 is a good all rounder, the tub can be split albeit a bit of a pain. Bosch link here for all their washing machines.

ParticipantHi again,
Having done a wee bit of research, it seems Bosch Serie 4 are their cheapest machines, ranging from £369-£529.
I’m wondering why you would recommend their cheapest range- are these their toughest machines?
Just curious…Thanks.

ModeratorSeries 6 and 8 have more bells and whistles and slightly bigger capacity with slightly better energy efficiency. Whereas series 4 is just a good honest workhorse.
Comparison on Bosch site will confirm this.

ParticipantAh… makes sense then!
Thank you. Now I need to narrow down my choice. They all seem to be the same thing and around the same price!September 14, 2020 at 10:12 pm #471869wmda99
ParticipantHi again.
Sorry I am driving you a bit mad with all my questions. I really appreciate having somewhere to turn to with all my questions- I do want to get this right.
Having reconsidered the options again, I do think it makes more sense to go with a Miele. The general consensus is that they are the most heavy duty machines around. Am I correct here?
Ok, so what I want to know is this- are entry level Miele’s as good as the more expensive models? I’m really not interested in the bells and whistles, definitely not interested in Wifi connectivity. All I need is a machine that washes well that will serve me reliably for as long as possible.
I would greatly appreciate advice in this area.
