    Hi,

I’m considering a Bosch WTW863S1GB tumble dryer at £528. The main draw is the A+ energy rating giving around £30 running cost per year.
However I have stalled buying after seeing the self cleaning condenser feature. This didn’t quite ring true and a search on google revealed o handful of complaints around blockages which cannot be easily fixed.
Does anybody have any first hand experience of this or similar model or feature, good or bad.
My other choice was the much cheaper WTE84106GB. Simpler machine, running costs more than double.

    Cheers,
    Andy

All makes of condenser dryer require a good deal of user maintenance. Filters and condensers to clean plus water containers to empty. The Bosch dryer you refer to is no exception. Adhere to the user instructions and you can’t go wrong.

This model allegedly doesn’t require manual cleaning of the condenser. Sounds suspicious to me. How would it get rid of the usual gunk build up?

Avoid it by cleaning the lint filter every time then the self cleaning condenser will be fine. Problems only occur due to misuse after all.

The biggest problem with stuff like that is that it encourages the notion that no care is required when, we know that cannot be the case.

Marketing departments, gotta love ’em. Or, perhaps not.
