suppose it had to happen one day, this will be the first time in the existence of UKW that I will have to miss a meeting. At a guess it will leave only K watt as the 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} meeting attender.

Can anyone tell me what time does the conference starts? So I can plan on what time to leave Birmingham, was it 10am?

Oh no, there’s no secrecy. The roast beef was a bit tough the first night, and the hotel are still not putting all the deserts out in the display cabinet; presumably to prevent greedy people having seconds.

Other than that it was, as usual, really good; the WTA team put in a lot of work as they always do.

thanks for filling me in on the important details and glossing over trivial work related stuff!

To be honest, it was largely a chat type affair as the September meeting almost always is because it’s smaller and you can do that.

To detail out four or five hours of that is difficult. More so to try to extrapolate what one person might consider important, to another personal may well be trivial or unimportant.

There was a chat around manufacturers and retailers poaching engineers. Companies trying to get revenue from repairers and a bunch of stuff about marketing yourself online.

Other than that topic wise, not so much really.

One thing that was clear to me was that a lot of people don’t know how to get the best out of the sit though, as in, UKW. So, I might have to do more on that.

I seem to detect a hint of irony there Mark. I was filling you in on the important details. As Ken so rightly says above, what’s important to one person isn’t to another. At the stage I’m at in my working life the buffet with its multiplicity of deserts is the main reason I go 😀 ; I can’t remember much about what was discussed a couple of hours after we’ve discussed it :rolls: .

    Re: September 2013 Engineers meeting

It was my first September meeting, it was very informal and I managed to recognise few faces and took the plunge to get to know other like minded engineers.

They are all different from each other and shares the same common ground.

As for the “lecture”, it was good to know what dirty tricks that other big boys gets up to even though it does not applies to me as I do not have contract work, franchise work, heavily dependence on websites but still I like to keep my eyes and ears open on what they are up to.

I was surprised that big firms were poaching for staff, I thought people are likely to go for independent engineers but then I perhaps I am wrong. Those big firms hardly need to do anything other than throws money on websites and stay on top. Customers just google for one and sees the one on the top so big firms gets the cream. The meeting was saying how to fight back but to be honest, I am an engineer not a computer whizz kid and I have to rely on pulling in favours to get the website running which produces so little result. It may work well for some but me.

The other thing knowing about how to get a bargain from various suppliers by using WTA membership, this is something that I can easily do.

Overall it was good meeting, keep up with the good work. 8)
