Precisely! In the olden days (12 months ago and before) the dessert selection was on display where the salads are now. You could help yourself to as many helpings of cheesecake, black forest and other gateaux, fruit salad, etc., as you liked, which some people liked to do. It was also not unknown for people to take a couple of glasses of chocolate mousse back to their rooms for a midnight feast. 😯
But for some inexplicable reason the desserts are now hidden away and you have to order them from the waitress….. 🙁

If you can’t count past six Bryan how do you manage to get the correct weight of refrigerant into a fridge?

You make it sound like a swingers meeting.

We shall bow to your obvious superior knowledge of such events.

I think its great that you arrange meetings.
Sharing knowledge and disscussing movement within the industry.
I’m sure the people who made the effort to attend enjoyed it and gained some usefull contacts.

Lee8 your smug, sarcastic, cryptic comments are acknowledged but hitherto ignored. Do please go away!October 2, 2013 at 7:20 pm #398627lee8

I was being sincere.
I firmly believe its viable to share what is going on within the industry.
I try, but its difficult for 2 reasons, 1 things are stated either in confidence and threaten future career of mine or any source. 2 people who are unaware are ego driven prefering to simply either believe its not true or mock.
I’m not about to loose friends and a career on peeps such as you Martin.:o
So no im not about to share for example that JTM is likely to loose 98{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of its current workload within the next 6 months, but the providers dont want to inform JTM for the next 5 months, if true the consequences would be obvious to most people of average intellect, and if not true what the 888k would be the point.

You have to acknowledge although, I think you sort of are, that it’s hard to take a lot seriously when it comes from a source that is not verifiable and at times can seem a bit flaky at best.
As to JTM, well I haven’t a clue and haven’t really heard much other than the odd muttering. TBH, I can’t really bring myself to care.
The only thing I do care about is that they don’t take any of the guys with them when the seismic shift happens. Again. It always does, it’s usually only the timing that is in much of any doubt.
Bringing me back to the topic in hand as that, the seismic shifts, predicting them and the fallout they leave behind may be a topic of the next meeting in March of 2014. Maybe, of course this far out I wouldn’t be able to call that with any degree of certainty you understand.
What I will say is that it could be one of a few topics that could be of interest if it makes the grade. Each topic is prep’d and normally a few are cut before the date because they either are a bit thin or, they don’t hold enough interest. We’ve been getting better as time goes by at weeding out the weak ones, keeping the ones that matter.
For the next meeting we have a few strong ones but, we may need a little help soon enough from you lot whether you go or not.
Cryptic in some respects I know but, we do like to have a few surprises for those that make the effort to attend and we don’t like to disappoint.
Which is why reporting what happens at these events is really hard. It’s hard to carry that effect through to the after action reports, it just becomes cold and un-involving which the meetings never are but then, if you don’t go or have never been, you wouldn’t necessarily know or appreciate that.
The late summer one is primarily for the engineers, it’s done on spec in the moment and thrown together a week or so before the meeting. This is good as it allows huge levels of flexibility but bad in that you don’t have the same polish on it. Good in that it allows us time to drift off point and talk to people, exploring areas in depth that we cannot do at the bigger meetings.
The large spring meeting is a completely different animal. We’re thinking about that right after the last one closed and we get a few days rest. We gear up and start really putting thought into it over the summer. We get feedback at the late summer meeting and take that into account then shift up a gear getting it organised, topics and presentations as well as guests sorted out from that point on.
It is an utterly huge amount of work that goes into making that happen and making it good.
From a bunch of what are often regarded as “trade terrorists” running their own businesses every day, it’s really not half bad. Then people whinge about it and moan at the WTA about what the £70 buys, perhaps another topic…
