ParticipantHI all,
I’ve just sold a customer a new washing machine, & have taken away their Servis M6115 washing machine, which is around the 12 month old mark, & has a faulty module, & totally wrecked drum bearings. The customer cannot find the receipt, & I was thinking of calling Servis in to repair it under warranty. Does anyone know if these machines have a 1 or 2 year warranty? Also, what checks/ proof will Servis require as to its age? The machine looks like new, & its a shame to dump it.
Regards,
Neil

If the customer says it’s only 12 months old you will probably find it’s more like 4 years old!

Hi
One yearYou will need proof of purchase to start with.
The first 4 digits of the serial number are year of manufacture

I once went out to an Inde***t d/w 15 months old and agreed with the customer I’d order a new circ. mtr. Next day she spoke to a neighbour who suggested she ring Currys, which she did.
They honoured the guarantee!!!!???
So I got lumbered with a non-returnable motor. Negotiated a reasonable settlement with customer and used motor on another job a few weeks later. (Not used another these 2 years since).

Phidom is probably about right regarding the true age of the machine. Years ago I used to buy a lot of second hand appliances through Loot. If you look in Loot you’ll find every appliance for sale is 18mths to 2 yrs old! I found the rule of thumb was always to double the age they said it was and add 2-3 years. I once went to look at a Tricity President cooker stated to be six months old. It was one of the old chrome & black ones; at least 13 years old!

It’s a £200 Servis. What is the point? Break it, keep the motor and make some little old lady happy with a cheap fix in a years time.

Hi
Look at serial number, if it starts 99 then its 1999, similarly starts 2004……. is what it is and so on.

ParticipantIn the last 6 months I have had 2 servis M6003 washers destroyed by coins going through the tub, the first one was replaced at a concesionary price by my supplier and the second one I will be replacing this friday, it is only 5 months old and the customer is paying full price for a new bendix washer, she said to me that “I am only to pleased to see the back of that crappy washer”.
Are servis outer tubs so crap that they crack very easily, since she had her old currys 95 hotpoint for about 14 years?, over which time I emptied the sump of coins on numerous occassions, however we never had a cracked tub.

I once went to a Hotpoint 95 for a door button problem and just happened to notice a 50p piece sticking firmly half way out of the outer tub near the top. I decided that getting it out and filling the hole was going to cause more problems than leaving it in so I debored it in to prevent any leaks and left it. Never heard back from the customer.

I fixed one a couple of months back using a piece of plastic off an old 95 tub. Have also done a similar repair on a WMA machine.

A colleage showed me a Servis machine today that had been scrapped after 8 weeks use, due to a wrecked drum. Apparently the customer had taken the back off and was told that they had thereby invalidated the warranty. The most stupid part about it though is that the customer went out and bought another identical machine! :clown:
