Servis Fridge Freezer M7554-1FF

I don’t do fridges so I know nothing about them. A customer has asked me to supply a fridge thermostat for this appliance, saying the freezer works but the fridge does not go cold. I looked at the parts list and it looks like the fridge stat is not an electrical device but operates a flap, a bit like the output control on a storage heater. Is this the likely culprit or is the fault likely to be elsewhere? 😕

Not familiar with this particular model. It’s possibly the flap valve faulty but more likely to be a freezer evaporator de-frosting problem. If the evaporator is blocked up with ice the fan can’t circulate the cold air up into the fridge. That could be caused by a number of things: de-frost heater, toc, termination thermostat/thermistor, timer/pcb. Needs diagnosing properly.

Am familiar with this one – Agree totally with Roly16 – The fridge stat, at the top of the fridge is of the mechanical type, take off the cover its only a clip fit and see if you have a gap around the small rectangular flap if so then the fridge stat is ok. Now in the freezer compartment, take of the back cover and see what you find – probably lots of ice. Defrost the lot off and make sure that the supply and return pipes to the fridge are clear. Once you can see what you are doing test out the components.

I can’t remember which model, but i’ve been out to a couple of the quite new service frost free’s with this problem and found a block of ice seems to build up between the drip tray and the bottom of the evaporator blocking the vent up to the fridge. The rest of the evaporator was clear and heater and everything checked out ok which imo points to a bit of a design fault with the drip tray heater (which is a continuation of the evaporator heater) not melting all the ice properly during the defrost cycle and over a period of time enough ice builds up and blocks the vent. 🙂
