I’ve got a customer that has just blown up her module after accidentally turning her machine off whilst it was going full tilt on spin. She immediately pulled the Timer Knob back out and the motor suddenly and violently braked the blew the house trip.

As far as I can see (and test with meter) the motor seems OK, so too the Timer. HJM the Module repairers reckon they get a few of these in for repair just the same…..strange?

Anyway my question is, have any of you guy’s had the same fault and do you think I can get away with slapping the repaired module back in after telling my customer what a naughty girl she has been 😉

Got any ‘SP’ on this one before I risk all ❓

    Servis – module – blown

Now there’s three words that were designed to sit together! 😉 😆

They go all the time Martin, very common failure and seem to be the weak point (well one of them) on these machines along with the bearings. Not cheap either if you replace with a new genuine one.

Priceless help so far guys thanks 😆 , a bit negative perhaps but reassuringly I think something positive may come up to make a circuit that doesn’t blow the minute you (sorry I) switch one 😆 😆

When you switch off and back on with one of these, the computer resets to the START of whichever step it is on. The spin sequence starts with a tumble and distribute whilst pumping, so it will revert to that initial step if interupted. Soon as it wants reverse tumble – BANG!

    Don’t do it!

    Penguin,

Thanks for that, so possibly on that note if I stick in the repaired module it could be back in ‘servis’ then 😆

Perhaps I will let the customer switch it on first though eh, so I can blame here again (Programme logic an all that 😉 ) if it blows 😯

We’re supposed to be professionals, but we still jump a mile when it goes bang, eh?!

Just watch the connectors Martin as they get fried as well and arc especially if it’s had a good belt. Servis can supply new connectors but don’t, I had to beg some off them at one stage froma helpful chap in Servis Tech. (I know that will come as a shock to many ;)) who happilly sent me a few to save changing the harness.

Motors are also a bit fragile at times, but I wouldn’t expect the motor goosed given the fault.

If you release the locking strip along the edge connector, you can release the individual connector and turn it over. Nae bother, pal.

Yeah, but some are double sided and the plastic goes between them, so you fit a new module and it pops again. 🙁

You quickly learn that though, but may not notice it unless someone told you to look for it before you zapped another module.

To let you know how bad it is, Servis would actually accept a claim where you replaced two modules if one popped on fitting, so a common failure. 😉 But then at one point we were replacing upwards of 15-20 of them a week so I guess we’d see these little foibles a bit quicker than many.

we had a blown plug on one of these, they sent us a whole loom to replace it! yeah, like we were gonna change that for £27 or whatever it was back then. Martin, switch the thing back on using a broom handle, at least you will be safe then!
