ParticipantMornin all…
I have inherited a Servis M7554 fridge freezer from the previous owner of my house and I think it may have problems. the compressor is running constantly and there are ice deposits forming at the top of the fridge section.
This person has a similar problem.

My fridge, although mine has much more beer in it than this one.
I have changed the settings on the thermostat wheel but there was no change in the situation. The wheel drum is definately moving the thermostat because i can use it to switch the fridge off.My question is…. Could it be anything other than the thermostat? I have removed it and checked all the connections etc. but it is still constantly pumping.
Is there any specific type of thermostat I should buy? And what should I expect to pay?

Like this one, for example. And does the thermostat capiliary sensor just need to be pushed down the back of the FF along the guiding tube?
Thanks muchely….

Yes, it definitely isn’t the thermostat. The thermostat simply switches the compressor off when the fridge reaches the correct temperature.
You have a system failure I’m afraid, either the compressor (most likley) or the refrigerant has escaped.
Both would prove costly and may well be beyond economical repair 🙁
Only a refrigeration engineer with the relevent test equipment will be able to tell for sure where the problem lies.

ParticipantErm… I’m confused….
The thermostat simply switches the compressor off when the fridge reaches the correct temperature.
The fridge is at the correct temperature (or it at least reaches the correct temp and cools beyond it) … but the thermostat relay isn’t switching the compressor off. That would indicate to me that the thermostat is faulty….surely?

Ah, sorry you didn’t mention it was getting too cold only that ice deposits were forming which indicates poor refrigeration – 😀
In that case, yes the thermostat is the probably the problem (especially if it’s freezing food in the bottom of the fridge).
Could you post the serial number as well please as Servis are notorious for changing the spec half way through production and I will check the correct one for you.

Don’t have the serial number at the moment. I’m at work… I’ll check when i get home later and post then.
Thanks again,

Ok,
just been home and checked out my thermostat. There doesn’t appear to be a part number on it, although it does have the GE (General Electric) symbol on it and the following numbers….
GE
526012403
3ART229A52
3-4 6(6)/250 ~The SN of the appliance is 20013709940 038214003 03 01 .
Any help would be appreciated….
Thanks…Flarko 8)

hi flarkey is the ice in the fridge mainly concentrated on the higher part of the back panel or the corner or is it pretty even all over the back panel?.

Participantyep.
I have replaced the thermostat and still have a problem. 😥
Fridgeman999 and robinsonrobbo, indeed ice is forming at the top part of the back wall of the fridge section.
What can/should i do? Or should i just get an engineer out? What is the cost of repair likely to be?
Anyone know of a decent Servis repairman in Belfast?
F-man.

Right, problem fixed.
I called this bloke out, He was in the phone book under “Refrigerator Repairs” I picked him purely because he is located only round the corner from where I live.
I explained the problem, and that I had replaced my thermostat to no avail. He looked and saw that there was Ice at the top of the fridge section, and sussed out that I may have a refrigerant-gas leak, or that my pressure was too low.
So, he got out his welding set, and his gas caniser and fixed her up. Bobs your uncle … one fixed fridge.
FF is now running normally and switching on/off through the cooling cycle.
So, what are your thoughts on the charges below:
Time for the job: 45 mins
Call out fee: £25
Parts and Labour: £62
Total cost: £87I think that was fair and reasonable. Saved myself from having to pay around £300 for a new fridge freezzer, the bloke had about 40 years in the refrigeration trade and was chatty and friendly. He seemed honest and professional.
Thanks for all the help again.

ParticipantBalls…
two weeks after getting the FF fixed and the refrigerant replaced… its doing the same thing again. 🙁I can only assume that there is still a leak and hence the fault has reoccurred. I how have some lovely toxic refrigerant gas floating oround my flat. Great.
That’ll explain the headaches then!!
Looks like i’ll have to get a whole new Fridge after all…. -
