KeymasterHi there!!! my 2 YEAR OLD m9713 washer dryer has stopped spinning.
My question is does this model have brushes on the motor?
I have taken off the top and the back, there are no loose connections and the belt ids still intact.
I am not sure how to tell if the motor has brushes or not.
Thanks
steve

Thanks!
Do I have to remove the motor from the machine to check the brushes?

It’s a lot easier to be honest Steve, yes.
It’s a tad fiddly to get them out while the motor is still in there 😉

KeymasterMore likely to be a module failure (as usual) on this though. 😉

KeymasterIndeed, Servis spares are ludicrously over-priced by a huge margin. A motor, as a spare, can cost as much as a new washer! Modules will, most often, leave you with enough out of £100 for a packet of crisps at the pub, the stiff drink you’ll need extra for. 😕

KeymasterThanks for all the help, I am going to get an engineer in today, will post the diagnosis if anyone is interested!

Got the Engineer in to look at the fault.
It was a blown connection on the module, so he wired the lead straight to the PCB, and it works now (£75 later, for 1/2 hours work).
Is this the going rate?, I am in the wrong business if it is!

Yes, you should be a solicitor or a barrister. 😉

I thought £75 was a bit steep…. after all he didnt use any parts, just labour.

Thing is Steve you have to remember that the engineer drove to you, diagnosed and repaired the fault with the experience and knowledge that he has in his van which runs on very expensive diesel (most likely), it also costs money to buy, tax and insure, he has to have public liability insurance in case anything untoward happens and on top of that he needs an office and someone in there to handle all the calls. Then in the office he needs IT equipment, a fax, telephone, stationary, furniture and a plethora of stock spares at base and in the van, not to mention tools to do the job.
Oh and most of us take a chance and the next call could be a pig of a job, but it’s still £75, but some you win and and some you lose.
For £75 I don’t think you got a bad deal really getting all that. 😉

Consider the alternative – the electronic board is £94.52 + VAT, Servis’ appointed engineers would not be allowed to repair the board, only replace it, plus the call out charge for an out of guarantee repair – you’d have been looking at the thick end of £200!
The engineer would have charged for the hour, regardless of whether the repair took an hour or ten minutes.
I presume you’re down south somewhere – the charge is higher than ours “oop ‘ere in’t North”, but then the overheads are that much higher as well.
Final thing to bear in mind as a general point is that the rate should be established when the apponintment is made, thus avoiding untoward surprises.

Funnily enough, my daughter is a recently qualified solicitor, working for a top ten Law firm in Manchester.
Her hourly rate, billed to the clients is over £200.00. 😯
She only gets a paltry £33 K per annum though. 😉 8)

KeymasterThanks for all the replies feeling a lot better now….I am in Birmingham Peng.
The advice about establishing costs beforehand has also been taken onboard.
