    Hi
    I have a Servis M9813 Washer/Dryer.

On selecting the drying cycle this morning the machine was very quiet, normally you can hear fans / air blowing.

After ~15mins there was a ‘hot plastic’ smell and I switched off the machine.

The top of the machine was warm and the heating element was hot but the drum was still cool.

Is there an air-circulation fan which may have broken?
What else may the problem be?
Should the wash-function still be usable while I wait for a repair?

    Cheers
    Gary

    hi,
there is a belt driven circulation fan on the back of the drum there is a good chance that the fan will have seized.
the best way to check is to take the small drive belt off and try to turn the fan pulley by hand.
this may explain why the machine is quieter than usual on dryer.
obviously take the plug out before checking.
if it is seized it is a really difficult part to replace.
it will still be ok to use as a washing machine until you get it fixed.
it would be more a repairs@ job than a diy job.

Thanks suedehead… I’ve had a look and the fan was indeed seized.
Turning it a few times by hand has freed it up enough for the motor to spin it again. 😀
Unfortunately the screws which fasten the fan housing are quite badly corroded so I think it unlikely that a full repair will be possible when it stops again – unless you have any other ideas!
Best start saving now I guess! :rolls:
    Many thanks for your help,
    Best regards
